E-PL2 Red Spots

Actually, one of the link actually has a comparison with epl1. link

for those who cant read Chinese, the first photo is epl1 with kit mk1 follow by epl1 with kit mk2, epl2 with kit mk1 and epl2 with kit mk2. The problem doesnt seem to be the lens.

After a little thot, i find it hard to believe that Oly didn't put in the effort in the lens coatings to reduce such internal reflections from sensor. BUT knowing Oly & the history of their 43 & u43 cams & lenses, my conclusion is... these spots is a sensor issue & not the lens or Oly issue since elgkh mentioned DP1 & RED also has such prob & iPhone 4 too.

Did a little searching & found that iPhone 4 uses sensor from Omnivision. Perhaps & maybe DP1, RED & now Oly buy/design-build sensors form this manufacturer? Omnivision has an issue with their sensor design/manufacturing?

We don't know for sure who makes these sensors. The DP1 is a Sigma design, the RED sensor is proprietary to RED, and Olympus (supposedly) uses Panasonic sensors. It could be that all 3 companies decided to solve a problem the same way.

The red spot problem is PLBV! Do that with any camera and you will get similar effects! Only difference would be the severity.

for those like me who cant read chinese here's google translation, it may not be exact but atleast some sense to what the TS was saying

for short time I have EPL1 with Kit lens and 1454MK1 I never had such issue nor my E620 even using some of my OM lens before I would see glare but not red spots. And I used to take landscape like surise/sunsets and night shots a lot before

Zuiko glass are known to be very good in handling glare compare to other lens

 I am holding on the purchase of EPL2 knowing the Red spot.
Hope there is a new firmware to clear out this issue. if it is a sensor design, then I will give it a miss and wait for EPL3 or EP3.

i am still looking to buy this :) put up my ep2 on sale in fact in anticipation of this :D i am not using this for serious landscape work, so i am not going to worry about red reflections using high F-stops when the sun is in my viewfinder :)

Bro, maybe you meant you will wait for EPL3 and EP3?

EP3 will be out of my budget, EPL3 is maybe another 1-2 years of waiting, my GRD3 wont last that long or I can stand its high ISO noise for that long.:(

don't seem like red spot, looks like regular flare, as the link dicam posted, its probably user error, especially if the parts they used are the same as the older models, I could be wrong though

There seems to be a ghost just above the van.

I think I will remain neutral until I try it out myself during the outing. E-pl2 seriously solve all the problems I have with my E-pl1 (no remote, no dial). hopefully the red spots thingy wont stop me from buying one.

Guys, how about trying it for yourselves? Using another camera, shooting into something like and LED light with f22, shoot stright into the light, I just tried it with my LED torch, E-PL2 has, so does my old Canon A710IS as well as the XZ-1, though E-PL2 is more pronounced, if the other camera also has it, its probably just not an E-PL2 thing, using the 17mm its not visible, using the 14-42mkii on my E-P1 there is slight

How often do you shoot into light sources with such small apertures? Rather than letting this trouble you, think about it, has the E-PL2 let you down in any other way? I've shot into light sources before, but usually at an angle so I never get these spots. If you find that the camera has not let you down in any other way, don't let this red spot thing stop you

U guys are mad...this is a flare issue. Point any camera at a strong enough lightsource and u will get it. This is really a bo-liao issue started by some bo-liao person in China.

I cannot help it, here's my GRD3 at F9(the max):

Also have the spots, but more random than EPL2 geometrically shown. And less pronounced.
