E-M5 Owner - Comments, Critique, Reviews, and what-nots :-)

Brought my new EM-5 out during the weekends for a test shoot at Chinese Gardens.
Just wanna share some photos taken with the 100-300. All are taken handheld and wide open.

very nice..

OOC?

I was hoping that the auto-focusing of this camera using the spot focus mode would be much better than the GH2 but I still have the same problem when I zoomed all the way with the Pana 100-300mm to focus a small flower like this Heliconia

but I get this instead.

I still have to focus on the broad leaves of the Heliconia first, then move upwards to focus on the flower.
I think the auto-focusing speed of the E-M5 is only marginally better than the GH2.
BTW, I'm not a very technical person. Prefers to shoot and enjoy than to be too picky about a camera.

Some shots I took with the Pana 100-300mm with the EM-5. Not familiar with the Oly Viewer yet, so did the minimal with these jpeg photos.

Just looking for anything to photograph even if they are uninteresting.

great shot bro just that the pix seems to have a hint of HRD effect care to share your setting and any PP done? I cant explain it it looks like some sharpenning has been applied but the bokeh is not that harsh...

thanks bro :-)

Thanks bro, PP was done on the jpegs. Curves adjustment layer to increase contrast, USM to sharpen and a subtle vignette.

I think you need a better camera than the E-M5 lar....

Hi, Oly505,
Not complaining about the E-M5. In fact, I think the colours are nice from the jpegs. I think I'll grow to like it when I shoot more with this camera. For those who think they want to abandon their Canon, Nikon, etc, for m4/3 ones will realise later that not one system will suit all our needs. Different occasions call for different usage of different kinds of cameras. Just buy what suits your needs or purpose.

Hmmz... does the EVF still fog up as Robin Wong previously noted in the non-production set?

Hi, dereth,
This camera is so new that I would not intentionally submerge it in water or splash water on it to test this. Didn't they put a bucket of water at the Hands On Session at Oly for you all to test this?
I would want to know if the system is still weather-proof if I attach the given small flash that is part of the E-M5 package? It's really a hassle to mount and take out the flash. There are too many small parts to dismantle and I'm sure some will get lost in the field of action. Thinking of putting the flash on permanently though I don't use flash that often now that we have fast lenses.

Isn't the flash that comes in the set weather sealed too?

I forgot to mention that I had a "Card Failure" type of error once when I turned the camera on with an Eye-Fi card inserted. Powering it down and back up again resolved the issue. I've not done that much testing but maybe someone else might see this issue as well.

I just updated mine. Not a major update from what I can tell. One thing for those updating, it takes a long time! Long enough that I thought the update had hung. So be patient and wait.

I dun hear any noise in mine. At least not more noise than E1, E3, E5, EPL3, EP3, EP1, EPL1, Fuji X10, XZ-1.....

Maybe those who are hearing noise have some problems.

Problems with their cameras or problems with their hearing? :bsmilie:

This thread is for user reviews and comments. Owners should post their reviews here for the benefit for others. If you consolidate, the topics will be too broad and there will be too many pages. I do not think it should be done.

In any case, no photos yet, but the EM5 is damn good in low light, even with the panny 14-45 kit lens at iso 3200. That is all I can say. I will post some photos wn i get the chance. Also the IBIS is damn powerful.
