Thanks!

I shot jpeg + raw, but since I have nt installed the Olympus sw to view RAW files, these are purely jpegs. These pics are OOC and resized and sharpened.

How does the colours appear on your ipad and PC?

Mine using Ipad 1st gen. especially the color, looks more outstanding. more alive. Cannot imagine the latest ipad...
But using PC, the pics all become too mono. can't feel the life in the photo.

Hope I not to exagg.....

I'm a Panny user and this is my first Oly camera which I got 2 days ago. Haven't got time to go thru the whole manual yet. Need help from Oly users here.
1 Do I need to upgrade firmwares for the Panny lenses to use on this camera? Seems ok when I use the Panny 100-300mm on it without firmware upgrade.
2 Can't find the setting in the menu to set the grid lines that I find it useful to use in the Panny camera. Is this not available in Oly cameras?

Thanks

You need a better monitor. ;)

Daniel,

I'm a GF1 user myself. So far I've quite reluctant to put forth a budget for this yet. Not sure it is worth the upgrade or not. Since, you've comparing between the OM-D and GF1, would you mind to let us know more about the comparison such as...

a) GF1 has chromatic aberation correction for Pana lenses. Does pairing the Pana lense to OM-D shows any significant difference?

b) Does Pana lense focus speed wise good or better on the OM-D?

c) Does video recording sound audible? Good enough for home viewing?

a) I've not really tested the lenses yet but I intend to see if the 7-14mm, in particular, has the same quality without the corrections. Maybe someone else will beat me to this.

b) The focus speed with the 20mm/1.7 seems fine enough so that I did not notice any lag switching over from the GF1. I'd say that it would be par at the very least but without extensive testing I could not really say for sure.

c) The video sounded okay but I would not rely on the in-body mics for anything serious. It's okay for ambient noise or in a quiet environment. Beyond that, I would use a separate recorder.

I have noticed that the AWB tends to have a yellowish tinge when used indoors (fluorescent lighting). This bias is probably what gives Olympus the warmer colours that most people seem to prefer.

IMO the GF1 has better ergonomics than the EM5 although the latter is pretty ruggedly built. This might change as I get more used to the EM5 but the GF1 felt very natural to operate whereas EM5 still requires some effort.

Can one live with the GF1 without upgrading? Absolutely. There are certainly improvements but the GF1 is no slouch either. I was originally contemplating the GX1 instead of the EM5 but I liked the weather sealing. If you're not needing a new camera urgently, I'd wait for the dust to settle a bit. Prices seem a bit high with Artworkfoto quoting 1888 for the set with 12-50, Cathay 1848 for the same and so on. I imagine once the initial rush is over, prices will settle down a bit more.

My 7-14 performs similarly on my G1 and EP-3. That being said, I don't care about CA.

Good to know that I am not the only one who has an issue with the AWB. But once you set it to fluorescent WB, it works brilliantly. I am thinking of getting a grey card, though, cos custom white balance setting is really easily accessible.

If u do not like the yellowish tinge, u can select the warm colour off option. Makes everything look cooler indoors. This was implemented since EP3. A very nice feature. For the EP3 and EPL3, I turned that off. But for the E-M5, I prefer it on. There is some difference in the colour.

Brought my new EM-5 out during the weekends for a test shoot at Chinese Gardens.
Just wanna share some photos taken with the 100-300. All are taken handheld and wide open.

@Chiahuichan

Last one the best!!!!

I saw this Lens for sale for only USD 199 at Amazon USA!!! Grabbed it without hesitation (ironically, i actually already bought this lens last year around USD 250, but I sold it since EP2's IBIS still not good enough for handheld)

Now check out this quick shot outside my flat window, taken at ISO 6400 at 1/4 s Handheld
At 45mm:

and at 200 mm:

Not Bad at all for handheld! So lucky i managed to get this quick deal at USD 199! Now is gone already i think!

The IBIS is really awesome, when you're composing at 200mm, you can really feel the effect as the image frame becomes super smooth and stable instead of shaky.

@Chiahuichan - I like the first two better! :) Personal taste, I guess. The lighting is more dramatic (on the bird) in the first two.

Thanks, cannedpineapples for your info. If lens firmware updates are mainly for correction of chromatic aberrations, I think it's too much of a hassle to do it as I have quite a number of Panny lenses.

Thanks, Oly5050. I managed to find the setting for the grid display with your help. The Oly menu is quite complicated.

The Oly menu is quite complicated.

There's an option for "Super Control Panel" SCP, find the manual on how to activate, it will save you some time:)

Thanks, wonglp. I'm too excited to fiddle with the camera that I spending less time going thru the manual but I'll have to read thru it sooner or later. When I just got the camera and had my battery being charged at that time, it took me about 15 mins to find where the on/off button is! LOL! I'm a Panny and Nikon user and the switches for these cameras are at the top. Life is going to get tougher to learn to use 3 different camera settings now.

I purchased the same for $199 too. :)

Someone from US will bring it over in Mid May. Not an issue as I think I will only get my silver OM-D then as well.

I don't know, I saw online that that may be the case (For CA). Personally, I don't care about CA so I never look out for it. Also don't correct for it.

I heard some feedback of humming sound coming from EVF... anyone care to try to take vid in a quiet room see if the sound will be capture by vid?
