Dynax7 or 7Digital

hey guys, dynax7 (d7) has always been my dream camera. wanted to buy 1. but, was wondering whether i should wait for the release of 7D?

2 choices here after 7D release:
(1) d7 price drop, get a brand new one at lower price
(2) switch to 7D, coz it was the equivalent of d7 in digital.

i personally prefer shooting in film, like the slides leaping from light box, & the opportunity to try out many different films.

so, if given choses, what will u guys take? (1) or (2) :dunno:

Hi ileaf,

If you're aware, the price of D7 has dropped worldwide recently to about $800 from $1100++ (except SG.. hmmm). At most, I would think it can drop $200 further, if it will ever drop further.

I don't see film will be gone in near future. So the choice between a D7 or 7D will based on your personal needs. Please keep in mind that a digital body will depreciate much faster than a film equivalent, and will have a short life span (before it become a "dinosaur"). Do some maths, see you can justify the cost of a digital body.

IMO, D7 is a keeper but not a 7D.

BTW, I love to see slide thru loupe on a lightbox too.. Its MAGIC! :lovegrin:

If you prefer shooting slides (and I can easily see why!) there is really no reason to wait. Get a used 7, or even a new one, as soon as you can afford it, as they are very inexpensive even now -- and it may be worth a little more to use the camera for a few more months! Plus, no one knows when (and even IF!) the D7D will be released, anyway...

And I've been doing my research to see where I can get a cheaper body ;p Will most probably get it fr the US. Anyone travelling to US? Can help me to buy? Any idea where else can I get cheaper bodies?

The fast focusing of the D7 works like magic for me compared to my 404...I have a few upcoming events to shoot, thus I think it's very critical for me to upgrade.

Film is archival. Digital is temporal.

Mdm, or you can get from China, about $800++ you can get A7 ver 2 + VC-7.

(Dynax 7 is known as Alpha 7 in China and Japan, and they have the upgraded version - 2)

the first DSLR (7D) might only be an advance entry level. perhaps I wait for 9D, see the specs first and decide . Minolta has yet to announced their pro. series.

I don't think D7 price will drop much. Just look at the situation in Canon and Nikon. You don't see F100 price plummeting despite years of pushing their DSLR sales with so much adverts.

Got to factor in shipping and warranty issues... but the Dynax 7 is still ex is s'pore cos there is limites stock there....
