Hey ileaf,

I'm in the same situation as u right now. I've been quite "troubled" lately thinking of whether I should get the D7. And I've been doing my research to see where I can get a cheaper body ;p Will most probably get it fr the US. Anyone travelling to US? Can help me to buy? ;) Any idea where else can I get cheaper bodies?

The fast focusing of the D7 works like magic for me compared to my 404...I have a few upcoming events to shoot, thus I think it's very critical for me to upgrade.

Upgrade to a Dynax 5 second hand.... the focussing speed is not too far off the 7... and it is really cheap now... it has about everything u need including DOF preview, HSS, ADI, 7 point AF, etc.... very good indeed... or if u have more cash to burn, try a Dynax 60 which is almost there in terms of features with the Dynax 7... dual dial config.... 9-point AF.......

well, i owned a dynax 5. but if u need upgrading from 404, i bet d7 is a better choice. of course d5 has many features, but it also lacked many features that intermediate users may need, eg, second-curtain sync flash, mirror-lock-up, flash compensation ... (er, that's all i can think of) rather than getting a midway d5, should upgrade all the way till d7, where it'll do almost all a photographer require of a camera.

I don't think D7 price will drop much. Just look at the situation in Canon and Nikon. You don't see F100 price plummeting despite years of pushing their DSLR sales with so much adverts.

Choice#1: Dynax7
1. -7-
2. Des
3.Paperkurt
4. Nightshade (sticking with the Dynax)
5. yeocolin (still loving my D7, despite being caught out there with rain at 10 deg celcius)

Choice#2: Dynax7 Digital
1. The_Cheat
2. Blurblock (I already got a Dynax 7 )
3. jimtong ( already have 404 )
4. Andre (already got a Dynax 7)
5.

wow! it's a 5-4 thing with more going for dynax 7. and those that go for 7D 50% own a d7 already. wow! pretty impressive for a camera that was launched few years back. i think digital SLR definitely won't be as popular after say 2yrs!

Mdm, or you can get from China, about $800++ you can get A7 ver 2 + VC-7.

(Dynax 7 is known as Alpha 7 in China and Japan, and they have the upgraded version - 2)

hi deslim, is there any differences between the 2 versions? say like they've expanded the data memory to record more films?

hi all,

thanks for all who replies, really appreciate your opinions & advice.

i think deslim made a very valid point, d7 is a keeper but not 7D. digital SLR will definitely depreciate at a much faster rate (similar to that of computer). to be frank, if dynax 7 price dropped to those similar to overseas, ~S$800, i'll definitely be the first one to buy man!
if anyone got any 1st-hand information, please remember to PM me yo!

hi vivientan, if you've got a gd deal from US, let me know, i want to join in also!

Jealous...ehhzz..i wan a d7 too...

Whoaz..tt means dynax 5 lacked many features...wat abt a dynax 7 compared to a dynax 9??..
I was tinking of upgrading so considering e dynaxes..

Why won't the 7D be a keeper? :) Just because of its 6 Mp resolution and 1.5x focal length multiplier? I can't see what's wrong with it otherwise.

For me, I'm pro-lens. I'm waiting for the new lenses to come out. :D I haven't bought anything in over two years.. waiting.. waiting.. waiting.. :)

Have any of the guys in SPore bought any cameras from Adorama or B&H in US ?? Any duty to paid here ? D7 is selling at US 399, some stores selling even cheaper....

Yup, I'm thinking of purchasing fr Adorama. The price of US$399 is very attractive, and it's inclusive of shipping. Fr what I heard, we still need to pay 5% GST when shipment reaches S'pore. Anybody has any experience purchasing eqpt fr overseas? Maybe can share with us.

There's another website http://www.ny-camera.net/ selling cameras, but it's in Euro dollars. Anybody knows what's the conversion rate like? :dunno:

I agree. D7 has all the features I've been dreaming of. I'd rather pay a few hundred bucks more to get a better camera, to save me the trouble of upgrading later on!

Sure! I'm actually thinking...if we were to order the eqpt in bulk, will it save us some shipping cost? Or still the same?

Maybe those who r interested in getting the D7 shd come together & consolidate our orders! :) Now I'm broke, probably get it next mth.

Exchange rate is approximately 1 Euro = 2 SGD.

Not cheap at all judging from the price on the site. About SGD 1200 for the D7 body.

Yes, what I know is they expanded the memory to keep track 16 (or 18) instead of 7 rolls, and either the AEL or AF/MF button was reposition slightly (we should see this changes applies to 7D as well)

Damn.. old liao! Nothing can remember exactly :D

Dynax 7 is the king of features :bsmilie:

Dynax 9 is pro-body, can double as hammer or weapon when kana attack while shooting :D. Mainly those with Dynax 9 can tell more of its uniqueness. I would rather choose 7 at 1/3 of the price..

I guess the significant diff is the fast focusing and body weight. If you D7 users rave abt its fast focusing, then the D9 is a blast! And I definitely agree with Desmond on using D9 as a weapon...was playing with my friend's D9 last weekend...confirm will give me 3-days backache after shooting for 1 day! :bsmilie:

Actually, there isn't anything wrong with the body. Digicam is like computer, new one will keep coming with better specs like bigger MP, more color depth, better updating speed, bigger buffer, image processor (Canon Digic :bsmilie:), bigger storage media (was floppy disk, then smart media, CF, SD, MM etc etc), latest external interface (was serial port, then USB, now USB2 etc), so on and on..

Current way of designing a DSLR doesn't cater for future upgrade (I don't think can be done anyway), therefore it can't be a keeper. A film SLR is different, a 10-20 years old MF camera can still be used with latest Velvia 100F.. :bsmilie:

Need a trolley to move the camera around?? :bsmilie:

Yeah, I find it too heavy for my like.. carry 1 min ok, 10 mins still can managed, 1 hour? 4 hours? Just imagine a wedding photographer carry it for the entire day.. SIONG!

ileaf, it's a 6-4 situation, not 5-4 as vivientan was somehow left out in the middle...

Dynax7 rocks!!!

Haha...u slow lah! I've already PMed him to check out the prices for me, but he's in an area which doesn't see competitive prices for electronic goods. ;)
