Hi everyone!
I'm looking for my first slr, read some reviews and want a 2nd hand dynax 5. I think it has very good features, and a good (when new) pricetag to go along. I'm a total newbie with slrs, and need advice from the experienced, please bear with me....

I don't intend to go the DSLR route; will this camera be able to use newer lenses that comes out? I see other forums have G lens, F lens and EF, E, all so confusing....

Mainly to be used for shooting abroad in wider angle situations in broad daylight, and indoors in portrait format. Got some samples of the shots I intend to use it for here.

Thanks!

Alvin

Hi Alvin,

Dynax 5 is one of the newest camera (Dynax 7 and later) from minolta so I see no problem for it to work with the coming lens. However, its known that some old lens from 3rd party manufacturer (especially Sigma lens) may not function properly with this camera

For minolta lens. You will see a few labels like

G - top glass from minolta
D - ADI (Advanced Distance Integration)
SSM - Supersonic Wave Motor (soon)

erh.. is that your question?

Hi, these are the few combination you might find useful.

1. 20-35mm f3.5-4.5
50mm f1.7
70-210mm f4

2. 24-85mm f3.5-4.5
70-210mm f4
20mm f2.8

and now the more ex combo

3. 17-35mm f3.5 G
50mm f1.4
80-200mm f2.8 APO G

the combo I use is
4. 24-50mm f4
70-210mm f4
16mm f2.8 fisheye

hope it helps you. actually I always encourage saving for the orginal lens.

Good day!
Hi deslim27! Yes you got it! So if I'm looking for minolta lens to fit a dynax 5 it's gonna be a G/ADI/SSM correct? Any older stuff? - these seem so advanced (e.g Advanced Distance Integration  )- got any more consumer level models?

andylee: Whoa thanks for the recommends! I think I like your combo 2 - I'll keep it in mind!

btw dudes, if i decide to manual focus with the dynax 5, must i get specific lenses or will any lens be usable? Also, is the viewfinder the kind that is blurry when not focused, and becomes sharp when in focus?

No you don't need to get special lens for your camera when you do manual focus. Yes the viewfinder is like what you mention. Cheers...............

Not really. You should able to use any Minolta AF lens without problem. However, the newer lens are featured with (D) so far which is useful for flash photography, and range from consumer to professional category. I got the list from Minolta website for you.

AF 85mm f/1.4 G(D)
AF 300mm f/2.8 APO G(D) SSM*
AF 50mm f/2.8 MACRO(D)
AF 100mm f/2.8 MACRO(D)
AF 24-105mm f/3.5-4.5 (D)
AF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 (D)
AF 70-200mm f/2.8 APO G(D) SSM*
AF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 (D)
AF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 APO (D)

You are able to do manual focus with any of the AF lens.

Correct. But I trust the AF more than my own eyes, therefore I use manual focus less often usually doing macro.

the 70-210 f4 has discontinued for quiet some time already. I doubt you can get brand new. But if you find it, the len is a keeper. Full metal feel.

Hi guys!
Can the Dynax 5 change film half way through the roll, switch to another roll, and later change back to the previous roll and "remembers" the last position?

Hello alvin, first, you go to the manual exposure mode, then you go to the highest shutter speed with the smallest aperture & you put to MF.....
