what's the price for D50, are there any 2nd hands available?

Maybe can try and find some remaining stocks. D50 has already been discontinued.

You can get 2nd hand sets from BnS here.

This malaysian camera/lens/equipment purchasing webbie --> shashinki.com

Has the D50(brand new) on sale at MYR2,450...but better check it out for postage and handling fir Singapore :p

See, all the fanboys coming in already. =(

Here, Pentax K100D for $860 with kit lens. Good value for money! =D

Once you read further, u will realised lens is more important than the body.
I wouldn't say Olympus is no good but it's system and used market is relatively small.5 years ago I used Minolta (Now Sony) before and was frustrated with the support..very hard to find accessories as shops seldom stock them up due to less demand.

Yes. I totally agree. It is not about fanboys or not. The lenses and accessories as well as support plays a bigger role. I myself is using a Olympus E500. I find it great. But there is a limited range of lenses I can get. The Nikon and Canon community is much larger, easier to find support if you have any problems. More choices. :)

hi all dSLR users!

Just curious what would be a good dSLR to start off with as I've been fiddling with 35mm SLRs in the past.

Any suggestions / tips?

thanks!

u ask a canon guy, he say canon best, buy canon
u ask nikon gal, she say nikon best, buy nikon
u ask oly gay, he say oly best, buy oly.
more to go - pentax, minolta, sony, leica, casio, toshiba, sharp, misubisu, toyota, blablah.....

All these cameras give same results.. all the other minor details, u can leave it aside to the academics to debate. what matter is the person behind the camera.

best thing is look at your own budget, how heavy, how compact u want to carry, etc. for the same price and pixel, or same focal length f stop, some brand are always heavier or longer or bulkier then the others. if u prefer to carry plastic bricks, by all means. ;pp

liquidity and marketability of a camera system is a very impt consideration.. IF u think u are fickleminded, cannot settle on what u already have, always wanna change.. then better go for those system that has a bigger 2nd hand market here.

then there is this ego issue, some camera give you more ego then the other, like leica hasselblad contax.. hahahaaa

i have been doing old olympus OM SLR for yrs, OM has no market in sg.. and olympus marketing sux, same apply to their DSLR. but they make practical camera system, no fanciful but useless functions. they had made the most compact SLR.. u put a nikon or Canon SLR beside OM1/2/3/4, then u will know why.. but this is history. now, i was told they are into most compact DSLR? i not asking u to buy oly.. remember, olympus marketing sux.

wow seems that D50 has been discontinued pretty quick though it has been out in less than 15 months from D70s. So which model is replacing D50 now?

what's the average price D50 is calling for now? Are owners keeping it cos of it's pros?

For myself, I was thinking of getting Olympus since I have been used to it back then with C2100 but since Nikon and Canon have more lens choices, it's good to have a look at what they have :D

D50 have certain advanced features ommitted. However, if you are only going to start out with it, it is more then enough. There are no replacement models so as to say. D40 is the same as D50 but without the motor (Meaning you can use non-motorized lens). D80 is the D70s Replacement.

Hope that you will not be mistaking me as a fanboy. As said, I support getting The N or the C. The reasons without we much explaning, should be quite obvious.

just curious, I learnt that D50 has autofocus with preset, all dSLRs can set into fully manual focus mode right?

Joke only la!

Don't take it too seriously. =)

no worries Andy...

so what kind of advanced features are omitted in D50 compared the the previous models?

what is the difference between D series and those 2H and 2X series which cost near $10k, especially them having lower megapix count compared to D series?

Emm, perhaps you have a bit of mixed up.

Its not previous model or whatsoever.

Its bascially on the "levels"

1st level: D40 /D40x / D50
2nd Level: D70 / D70s/ D80
3rd Level: D200

Pro: (The single digits :bsmilie: )

differences in things like fps, flash controller, gprs, body material (D200), shortcuts / dedicated buttons, dof preview, etc...

Please list full model name.

Also, to me, Megapixels is never important. What's most impt is the sensor quality, and then the focusing speed.

D2Hs and D2X, but quite surprised they are using CMOS sensor which are supposed to be inferior compared to CCD right?

Not really. All of canon's new Dslrs use CMOS sensors and they tend to have better battery life and noise control(in general) compared to thier CCD counterparts. All depends on how the manufacturer uses the technology.

For the higherend bodies you pay for more customisiable features high fps , better body build and possibly a better AF sensor.
