dry cabinet

Hi all , i getting a dry cabinet for my camera, as i m new so alot of stuff need to ask from the seniors here.

Firstly after getting the dry cabinet, beside the gel silicon , what else do i need to purchase? how often do i need to change the gel for it? and should i detach my lens when i put into the dry cabinet or leave it on with the camera?

When you buy a dry cabinet it's a all in one solution, it controls the humidity and absorbs moisture ( there is desicant absorbant inside you do not need to replenish it or it may have a heater to evaporate moisture, a peltier element)unlike if you use a drybox/tupperware then you need silica gel to act as absorbant.Silica gel can be recycled,you bake it in oven at a temperature that will not burn it. It's pink in colour when full of moisture and blue when "dry". Dry cabinet is the best solution just store and set the humidity setting you prefer.Note that humidity level will take time to settle to steady state. It's your choice whether you want to have lens attached to cam body or separate the items. Store and forget ( assuming items are free from fungus in the first place, if your items have fungus clean them first before you store with the rest of your equipment but make sure it's always powered and check the humidity reading regularly during intial deployment.

Consider getting a second standalone hygrometer, just in case anything goes wrong, you can double check.

I don't usually detach my lens from body during storage.
If u buy a dry box u need to have silica gel but if u use dry cabinet it runs on electricity hence no need silica gel

Digi-cabi has worked well for me so far. You can consider too.

They can deliver to your house, cash on delivery too. I just bought a 80L one bout a month ago.

oh cause i found user got it from IT show and they dont need it selling it away at 50-60 dollar and for now i only have em1 and the kit lens so i dont think i need a bigger litre

the idea of using a dry cabinet is to keep the efforts of maintaining of camera and lenses to the minimum, so we can have more time for more important things in our life and also have time for taking photos.

the same principle of "keep it simple" do apply on choosing what cabinet, where to buy, how the way you should keep your gears inside the cabinet.

If that's the case. just get a small one.. 30L will be big enough to store your em1 and kit lens.

As for brands..they are all pretty much the same..

For me..I use is digi cabi.
No special reason tho. I use this brand because the shop I usually buy my stuff from is Selling this brand of cabinet. So far so good. 5 years. Still working.

Either the one with the brand name you won't mind looking at daily (if that sort of thing matters to you), or on a more practical note, the one with the service centre that's closest to your home, or wherever you are going to use this dry cabinet.

Not sure either. They call it a 'sales and distribution office', so dunno if they do servicing there or if it's subbed out to a workshop somewhere else. Never used samurai. Own a digicabi, svc centre at Jalan Pemimpin.

Bought myself a digital display hygrometer from Aliexpress. So now i have 3; the one built onto the dry cabinet. An old analog one & now the digital one. Both the analog & the digital ones read about the same. The one on the dry cabinet always read higher.

I think there is a way to find ur cabinet reader reading then offset it so that all 3 will be the same
