dropedp frames during capture of tapes

Hi guys,

anyone know how to resolve "dropped frames during last capture attempt" ? I tried cleaning my small video camcorder which is used to capture my tapes, but it doesn't seem to work.

I also unclick the option "abort dropped frames" but there were still drop frames in my footage.

If it happens very frequently as you capture, then maybe your HDD is not fast enough.

But if it always happens at a particular scene, the data on your tape may somehow be corrupted at that scene. Nothing you can do...

I have always used the same cam corder to capture, but it always work fine.

Before the incident, I used my friend's cam corder to capture the tapes, while capturing, there was an message saying the video and the audio does not sync. After that incident, when i use my cam corder to capture the tapes, the error comes out. So could it be my friend's cam corder?

Hmm... I wonder if your editing software recognizes the camcorder brand and model automatically. If it does, you may want to check if this is causing the problem. I could be recognizing your cam as your friend's cam?

Other than that, I'm out of ideas... so sorry....

Have u tried defrag your hard disk?
Kill all background processes before capturing.

more likely it's a harddisk issue.

What's your hdd capacity and how much space do you have left?

Hi guys, I'm using FCP for my video editing.

My hard disk is a 5 tb data tale. i'm left with 400 gb. And it has been working fine but only after the "incident" with my friend's cam, the probeem then came out. I highly doubt it's the hard disk.

Now I unclick the option "abort capture on dropped frames" to capture my tape, but i dont know if it affects greatly to my footage. But I do see some of my footage freeze at times.

a 5tb hard drive left with only 400gb is the main culprit for your drop frames in capture.
Either you clear out some space or get another harddisk.

based on most drive specification, the performance of the drive will drop more than 50% once space is 50% taken up. The performance drop will be non-linear, which means that if it's 60% used, performance may drop 75%.

Isolate the problem by capturing to another drive or even capturing to your internal mac harddisk to see if the drop frame still happens.
