using J1 ballistics and f6 canvas. both great bags to use if you bring lots of gear from point to point. not so great if u slinging it the whole day with all the weight on 1 shoulder.

oh no... so now come to this question in me.... ballistics or canvas???

if u like the rugged look, get the canvas. it gets grungy looking very quickly even if u try to keep it clean. it is newer than my J1 but it looks 10 times more grungy. weather wise, i been caught in the rain with both bags. as long as u dun stand under the rain in a seasonal monsoon, light rain is fine.

what color you got for your canvas?

is...i like the color, but wats pull me back is the wax part..which need to maintain if not water can into it..

maintenance? i hardly think you need to maintain it... its only when you want to refresh the look that you go wax it. the wax does not disintegrate if thats what you are asking.

how about cleaning? I read it, it say cannot wash in washing machine but the canvas can.

why do you need to machine wash your bag?

Hello

I used the J1 (10 years+)& J3, ballistic nylon is great, very very durable and the color does not change. It's also slightly more water proof than canvas. Canvas can fade after a few years but it's softer and more comfortable than ballistic nylon.

oh btw i also own the J3... great bag. i use both J3 for more equipment and ruggedwear f3x for a casual day out.

I think those who got the canvas would like it to have the color fade and more season right? =)

if its heavy dirty or stain how you gonna clean it? im sure wet cloth to clean it wont solve that..

dirty and stain adds character... i never remove stains from my billingham.

you don't hear people tossing their billingham/kata/lowepro/fogg/tamrac/crumpler into the wash. it isn't a major consideration on camera bags.

in fact i know most people toss the canvas into the wash mainly to soften it and get the more seasoned look. ruggedwear is pre-seasoned =D

besides it is dark brown, one of the hardest colours to stain/dirty.

One man's meat... ;-)

That said, I remember a client saying that given a choice, he prefers a photographer with newer camera bags (tripod bags incl) vs old ones. I was surprised but it was an interesting perspective, as a photographer I preferred seasoned looking (esp classic beige domkes) bags.

Would I try to keep the bag newish or buy new bags every few years? Yes, so that I can impress the odd client who likes new bags.

Does it mean that a seasoned and faded looking domke bag will command premium in the 2nd hand resale markets? I got a very soft and faded black F7, does it mean it will cost more than a brand new ones?

i think it implied the photographer takes pride in his job.

Hi anyone using Domke F2 Canvas or F2 Ruggedwear? I like to hear some comments..

Planning to get one...but confuse on which to get. Some more Cathay Photo no stock. Is it safe to purchase from vpost US? safe as in not getting those counterfeit (fake)ones.

Pls advice.

Thank you.

Hi bro, please take the time to check the prices on online shops like B&H and Adorama. I recently bought a F-4 canvans from B&H, after factoring the UPS shipping cost, the bag still cost $60 lesser than Cathay Photo.

cathay tends to mark up prices as we all know,

B&H and Adorama would be better to purchase from, i usually get bags from the latter.
