Does anyone use "live view" for dslr?

Hardly use LV.. only use that option as in awkard angles like taking a shot from the top in a squeezy place or something..

Its good to have but not must have.

I use it for manual focusing when doing landscape and also for awkward angle. You can also use it for macro

Weird angles like putting the camera heads above everyone else ;)

hi there,

i've a burning question. i rem many yrs back, i was quite taken aback to using dslr as back then, dslr doesnt have those "live view" where u get from compact digital cameras. anyway i didnt really stick to my hobby for long. now i'm back to it lol. i didnt even noe that "live view" is available for quite a num of dslrs.

what i did was i purchased one that doesnt support this and i'm feeling "uneasy" and kinna frustaurated as to have i make a wrong choice in purchasing one that doesnt support this?

do u guys use it anyway? haaa yes, some of u might have guess it, i'm actually trying to get someone to convince me that i dont really need "live view" LOL! but i tot it might be good to have since u can actually see how the images changes as u adjust the settings etc. what do u guys think?

mr uneasy LOL!

No need live view. They are only a gimmick that serves no other purpose other to make it look like a pns.

I would not be able to take this shot without LV. It's either that or I lug a ladder/stairs during the photoshoot. So question, is it useful to me? The answer is YES.

Whenever my head can't reach the VF (too high, too low, too extended beyond ledges) - live view is a saviour. I use it briefly to align and frame my landscapes sometimes as well.

Yup I do! I use it to check out bokeh. Apparently, you can't see the bokeh output on view finder. ;)

As others have posted, live view really helps manual focus and focusing from difficult angles.

Swivelling lcd might be a good thing too...

As someone has already said, Live View is good when the odd angle situation is. It's more useful if the display can be turned. Eye can't be on the ground when I shoot from very low angle. Then, Live View can do the job.

i dun use live view too. it's laggy, battery consuming and it just feels weird using it now that i'm on a dslr. live view isn't important. what's important is your viewfinder. and no it doesn't help u compose better shots. perhaps what you see on your live view is wad u get, so you'll feel more comfortable. but you'd get used to it using your viewfinder. i was also on pns until 7 months ago with my 50D. btw, dun use live view too much...you'd be heating up your camera.

Hi,
I use it for my Astrophotography and flower macro shot when I need very accurate focusing. Basically, I change from Canon 300D to 450D becuase of live view, so answer is "YES".

Happy Chinese New Year and have a nice day.

I onli use it when in awkward angles/position.
Else, go with your "feeling" to capture the shoot... :vhappy:

to add on what has been said here, you can also check the effects of white balance presets and picture styles on live view. I believe live view is an important feature to have but not a 'must have'

I find LV useful when adjusting GND filters. It's more troublesome trying to peep through the OVF while trying to align the graduation at the same time.

Also can be slightly faster when lining up multiple shots for panoramic stitching. Coupled this with an intervalometer and probably you can go *snap snap snap* those 360degree shots really fast.

I think Live View is not just a Gimmick! I think it an improvement for DSLR.

Of cuz since it is an improvement, it is not a must have thing but it is always good to have. Well, to me it is important but not on daily usage basis.

I use live view ALL THE TIME for manual focusing in landscape photography. It allows me to pinpoint exactly where I want the focus to be (which tree or flower).

Indispensable.

I can purchase a DSLR without video, but NOT one that does not come with live view.

cool! tons of replies within less than half a day LOL! okie, anyway i've brainwashed myself, now i'm back to normal, go and use whatever i have haha! but nice info!

:bsmilie: at f/8, f/11, f/13, f/16... and assuming wide angle lens..

something has to be very wrong if the tree, plant, ant, uncle, auntie, xmm, little finger you want in focus is not in focus WITHOUT live view. :bsmilie:
