doctor son throws cleaner mom out of the house

correction: too often there are professionals who put themselves on a high horse that they don't realise they're an ass.

meaning, by their actions at the top, they dont realise they're an ass.

they are the elites...can u do anything to them???

how come the doctor in question address his mother as "the old woman"?

my neighbour is one classic example. He got married and after the house loan was fully settled (not sure by whom, exactly but was told by the mother single handedly), told his mother that it's good to have the house under his name because he is married and bought over the house for a 'token' sum. My guess is that he just got a lawyer to change the name of ownership. Anyway, not long after, he chased his mother and brother out of the house. I don't know where they went after this as I haven't got their contacts. The twist to this story is that the idiot's not rich at all and probably is struggling to make ends meet.

I'm convinced that not only the rich throws their parent(s) out of the house.

Agreed. Respecting our parents and obeying them is a very important tenet of life. Agreed. Should try to get another accomodation for her if she does not want to stay with them. Just by the way, This GP is earning good money - 200k a year. Not many earn that much. In fact, the rentals are now so high and overheads too that quite a bit of what is earned is ploughed back into rentals or mortgage repayments. I know of some GPs who stay in the room just above the clinic because they have got no money to get another apartment. They have to work very hard as well. 3 session a day, seven days a week. Some even have a door bell so that patients can see them in the nights. Not much of a life left, I guess, if one works like that..

You have pointed out the crux of the issue - he is earning good money. You mentioning that some GPs are doing it hard is a red herring. My heart bleeds for them. They chose that lifestyle. Live with it.

Those that choose to work late - that is their choice - they can always choose not to do so.

Many doctors in Australia refuse to work in the Outback even when offered very attractive incentives and pay because they know that they can earn more living in the city. Plus they do not want to deal with aboriginals. They make that choice.

Good on you to be able to control all such situations. Each family is different and each have their own problems.
I am nothing special, it is just finding an alternative solutions to problems.

Thanks for your compliment!

Thank you for your compliment!

You are very welcome!

Sure, all of us here are simply upset by the actions of a person whose profession in yester-years is much respected. All of us have value systems and principles based on what we believe and have been brought up. These set the standard as to how we evaluate and give opinion to actions and things that are happening. What I am trying to say is that we should look at the actions and berate it, slam it and fry it. Why curse the person and slam him and his family when we do not know the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth!

The problem isn't the profession but the moral calibre of the people in the profession.

Funny, that it is mainly the ones in the profession that are on the defensive in this thread and calling for people to look at both sides of the story.

Maybe it my own naive principle that I also teach to my children, so this is purely my own opinion and you may not agree with it at all and it is alright with me:

Judge not as you will be judged!

I do not judge but I evaluate and decide what to do based the principles that I know.

Funny that by saying that you too are playing judge. ;)

Talk about "Yin shui si yuan" here.... don't bite the hand that feeds you.

If not for the mother, I wonder what job the son is doing now. Bad karma will return to him one day.

It is just so sad... you know as parents we raise our children the best way we know how and provide them with everything we can afford. It can all come to nought when comes along a "very good" son/daughter-in-law.

I think there's lessons to be learnt for me here... best is let the young stay on their own and that care of their own children, when it's my time to have grand-children, I'll try not interfere or get involve in my children's family life/quarrels/arguments and not take sides.

Good relationships are hard to established and very fragile as emotions are tied with it..

Again, this is just so sad that the son had resorted to this, I'm sure he must be feeling alot of mental anguish after doing what he did.

I am disgusted when he said,
'At no point was the old woman coerced into selling the flat
'My wife did not like the idea of the old woman cleaning tables at the food court,
and
I had told the old woman to quit her cleaner job but she refused to comply.

His mother is just an old woman to him not a mother, she refused to comply? what the son orders the mother around?... this is really a sad situation, how can a highly educated person behaves like this? what went wrong?

i would first of all hog-tie the son, probably to the back of the dad. then with them tied together, maybe fill a fish-tank with squid or some other squirmy animal. drop them in and leave 'em. :D

very very upset...............

no matter who u are, whatever parents do, dun leave them alone........................

me too - I find it hard to see the other side of the story, bottom line, son throws out mother who puts him through med school :nono:

Very sad story.
But I must say that I'm not surprised. You'd think that they of all people would have more empathy. I for one would not like to be treated by the likes of this idiot.

Doctors are a funny breed indeed. Some are not even very intelligent people.
Only a pharmacuetical salesperson would understand how cruel and sadistic they can be. Man, the many stories I've heard about them. Sometimes I wonder how they can be in the profession.
Its not just doctors per se FYI.

If u heard stories about doctors (yes, yes. I'd heard all those stories in Hospitals abt doctors cracking jokes on a paitent's life & family), I'd heard even more stories out there on other professions. Why target doctors specifically? Is it due to their pay?

Still, I'm pretty surprised. The old woman said that SHE FAILED to gain respect from HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW? I thought it shld be the other way? Or has time and morals gone down the drain now it has to be the reverse?

In the first place, I don't understand what is with the stigma accompanied from being a cleaner or in a blue-collared job? Are so many people around working in white-collared office jobs too long that they'd forgotten about the basis and lifeline essentials of any society is a blue-collared worker?

Noticed some are talking about "Karma". I guess its all a cycle of potentially past misdeeds returning to oneself hitting another and so on and so forth. Those who are gonna shoot me down, go ahead I'd say. But to those who understand the Buddhist principle of Karma (at least even the slightest inkling of it) would know what I'm trying to say. Ok, wun go into specifics or into religion matters liao.

i've met quite a few of the younger doctors these days. most of them seem to be lacking in some social aspects. like they got some big chip on their shoulder.
Unfortunately, this society goes this way.

I wun say its parents entire fault, but more oft than not, how many of u heard things like these or even said it to ur own child?

Parent: Boy? U see the man there? What is he doing?
Child: Sweeping the floor.
Parent: Good. U know why he sweeping the floor?
Child: Dunno.
Parent: Because he din study, if u never study hard, end up become like him sweep floor everyday. U want?

Whilst such a conversation is said with the good intention to raise and motivate ur own child towards education, where's the empathy in shooting others down due to their perceived lack of education ending up with blue-collared jobs?

Parents here, occasionally u might be implanting words of insympathy in ur child. I may not be a parent to completely empathise with u but den again, watch ur words when u're speaking to ur child. U might be saying something to them unconsciously that would drive them towards an unconscious motivation.

Just saw this very sad news. If anyone knows who this pair of beast is, NAME them. Make sure no patient goes to his clinic and boycot the wife's company's product/service until they sack them. get their photos and post on stomp. Maybe HDB can help by reversing the ownership transfer. Hope their asses rots and their baby cries every night.

In my younger days, I used to get all worked up and indignant when I see families "dumping" their elderly members into old folk homes and hospitals. Advising family members to care for these old people at home is akin to talking to a brick wall. The families would give all kinds of reasons to get the old folks admitted. Once admitted, the chances of discharging them is abysmal.

Admissions tend to increase over the holiday season. I subsequently found out that family members needed the time off to take a holiday without the encumberance of the said old folk.

As I grew older (and hopefully wiser), and began to spend time understanding the family care-givers, I developed an alternative point of view.

Some of the families have to put all of their members to work in order to earn enough money, leaving nobody at home to care for the elderly. The old are either non-mobile, have cognitive problems, health problems, mixture of all, etc.... Sometimes, care for the elderly can put a BIG strain on the family dynamics.

Now, I'm certainly NOT advocating such behavior. However, let's not be too quick to judge without putting ourselves in their shoes.

Other times, even family members can have disputes despite living under optimal conditions. Such is the nature of things when it comes to human inter-personal relationships....
Ignore the rest my friend.

I know where you are coming from.

No -nothing against doctors at all - just wondering.
However, it would answer reveal your biases.
As it would reveal urs too.

And ur mindset.

It's time education teaches people to be a better human being.
The reverse seems true however.

Education is without a soul now.

Hmmm, my Aussie collegues choose not to work in the Outback because it's simply too boring. The incentives are good, however, there are MILES of emptiness there. Can you imagine working there? It's not always the case that work in the city brings better money...

Sigh.... Tetrode, you're just taking this all too personally....you shouldn't. I have always maintained that "funny" people exist in ALL parts of society. We, yes, you, me, the others, are all capable of making bad decisions. The question is "Where do we draw the line?"

This discussion has NOTHING to do with "class", and it should not. Unfortunately your posts seem to suggest that you are holding a "class" debate. Incidentally, "class" and "elite" concepts are ideas I do NOT subscribe to.

I realize that there are individuals that choose to practice these concepts. Well, that's their choice. It's a choice we all have.

By the way, in my personal experience, it's usually not the truly rich that dish out attitude, those guys are secure of their positions and have nothing to prove. Rather it's the new rich, the recent "up-graders" that give the MOST attitude. Perhaps it's because they harbour a lot of bitterness and resentment over the years, felt like they have been trodden upon, and all of a sudden, they strike it rich. You would not believe what these chaps can say or do. Money can change people, nobody is immune. So for all you guys who HUAT AH! and win the $10 Million TOTO, please don't forget your fellow CSers. Some of us are still looking at the new VR lenses :bsmilie:

Again, we should not bring out the lynch ropes and torches simply because a rag like TNP publishes a one sided storey. How many times have we have to re-evaluate the situation when new facts come to light. MAYBE the mother is a gambler and borrows money from loan sharks. Flat maybe paid in full by the father, that's why the Dad wanted the son to have it. Mother goes to TNP to get her side published to help in making a claims against the son and succeeds. We would all look rather silly if something like that came up next week. The only winner is TNP who manages to sell more papers. Jusging by the responses on this forum, TNP has accomplished it's objective of "flame-baiting" the public in order to increase sales.

Usual TNP headlines are stories like "MILLIONAIRE HUSBAND DUMPS WIFE AND KIDS WITH NO ALIMONY!!" Lots of people get worked up. A few weeks later, readers may find out that the wife had an affair and the kids do not belong to the millionaire.....SIGH...

I'm still of the opinion that we should wait for more information before coming to any conclusion. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to be anytime soon. From a legal perspective, it seems like there are no more outstanding issues. We've heard "her" side, we have not heard "his" side, which is bound to be biased anyway, and we may never get the "true" story.

guys..i agree with where all of you are coming from. some condemn the son and wife whilst others promote a more balanced view by asking for more information.

but i think we miss the bottom line.

this story has taught me to treasure my parents more and more each day. when i read it, i just reflected on all the things that they have blessed me with and felt really thankful for it. it reinforced my conviction that parents are to be respected and looked after. i hope that whatever emotions you all may feel, you have taken away some valuable life lessons from this tale, just as i have

peace friends. let not our emotions get the better of us and start flame wars. it never does any one any good

:)

Even upon finding out a few weeks later, biased judgement had already been formed and it would be too late to rectify/clarify anything.

Its like how u see some people fixing a negative mindset on... say, the govt. And whatever the govt says ultimately is all absolute 'propaganda', 'brainwash material', 'lies', 'wayang' and so on and so forth.

Ultimately everything goes down a 1-way street.
