Hi all,

Early this month, Singtel Mobile were KIND enough to GIVE us a new service "FREE".

It was designated Caller Alert, a Free service by Singtel Mobile. When your phone is off or uncontactable, the system will send you a message telling you who has called.

I had a bit of free time last week so I called 1626 and asked a few questions about it.

OK, this is what I found out.

1. It is presently a free service for Singtel Mobile GSM 900 customers.

2. Receipients of the messages do not have to pay a single cent.

3. Callers who are "lucky" enough to have a friend who switches off their handphones pay $0.20 per message.

4. These messages are not deducted from the free SMS that we have but are billed in a lump figure with the airtime charges.

Presently the only way to disable the incoming service is to dial *129 and Send. Outgoing is still active unless the other party has disabled the feature.

I hope that we can all work together to disable this "FREE FEATURE" that is guaranteed to make money for Singtel.

Hi Hong Sien,

Definitely not joking. The system tells you some CR*P about how a message has been sent to 9******* about your call and then hangs up. KerChing (Cash Register)!!!!!!!

Regards

Actually, there was something similar with M1 as well - VoiceMail. When ppl record their msg, it's ur airtime. Additionally, if u divert ur handphone to your home phone, it's ur hp talktime that is being deducted.

Had a friend who diverted his phone calls to his phone and ended up with a whopping bill of a couple of hundred for that month.

For singtel airtime... when you divert it to your homephone... they charge incoming airtime to your handphone....AND since they forward it to your homephone... they charge the outgoing airtime!!

SO... let say your friend make 20min call to your handphone and you had diverted to your homephone..). You are charged 40 MINUTES!!... for IT....

UNLESS you subscribe to their ONE NUMBER service... then the OUTGOING airtime is waiver...BUT not the incoming airtime charges... confused?

Cancelled my voicemail with M1 because of this stupid feature. Although the voicemail is free, but when the caller left a msg on your viocemail, the airtime is charge to my hp#.

The voicemail is a useful feature but it's just not flexible enough. User cannot delete a msg halfway, as he has to hear the msg completely before pressing #7 to delete it. What happened is, I got a few silly people leaving songs, long slow msgs on my voicemails.. wasting money.

Well, I've had ppl leaving "empty" voicemails in my mailbox. Apparently, they didn't know what voicemail was about and probably continued to listen to the phone.. duhz...
