do you conform to aspect ratio standards?

Is there any feature in any software that helps to crop images according to standard aspect ratios? I am doing it via manual calculations now, a bit tedious.

if you crop the photos into 3:2, you need to print it into a 2:3 ratio paper size, like 4R, S8R etc, so the image will not to partial crop, or show white areas.

self adding borders can be very tricky, if you add white border, make sure you ask the lab not to do color or density correct on your photos, else you will have white borders, gray borders, pinkish borders, blueish borders etc etc...

and since the paper roll maybe not perfectly align, or having FILL IN instead of FIT IN, the borders maybe lopsided or different thickness in four sides.

best way to do it is to make very think borders, like 1cm thick, and also ran a series of test, till you adjust the size borders look exactly what you want on the print out.

you also need to know that these images only good on one paper size, if you need to print in other size or ratio, you have to start all over again.

sorry ah.. somemore questions.. so anything that i crop to a 3:2 ratio would then be able to turn out nicely with the borders on a 4R?

in the case of the 450D where the aspect ratio is already 3:2 and i add in borders to the sides. the borders will not appear or will be come lopsided due to the printing right?

so for the borders to appear properly i should do a crop of a 3:2 together with the borders so that the print out can be correct?

or should i ask them to add in borders for me instead?

you original is already in 2:3, if you add border to the image by,
#1 expending the canvas, the image is no long 2:3. so when you make print, the four borders are not all in same thickness.

#2, create a background layer in with the color borders you want, using transform tool to reduce the images for revealing partial background layer to be borders, the four borders are not all in same thickness.

#3, using storke tool to add borders, the four borders will all in same thickness now, but the borders will EAT into your image area.

if you really want to do custom borders, will be like what I said earlier, need to run some test prints and adjust and test prints and adjust and test prints adjust till you get what you want.

anyway, you also can ask the lab to print your photos with borders, can save all your trouble.

I always follow the option provided in Photoshop, example like 8 in X 10 in, etc. I keep the aspect ratio

For single shots I usually do not alter or crop the existing 3:2.
For panos the length varies. Some are nicer longer, some are not
