I think espn's BBB virus will only attack those considered Rich man, haha~~~ i am one of 月光族 in chinese, means Every month use up all money~~~

my friends are considering to go to New Zealand in Nov. I also want to join them. is my 18-70DX good enough for there? should be...

what is the macros ratio for the SIGMA APO II 70-300? and Generally speaking, are SIGMA lenses considered good over the price?

BTW, where can buy 2nd hand in singapore? i checked yahoo auction and ebay. almost nothing there~~~ any where else?

hey, welcome to the sister club of BBB - its call spend spend spend... getting a DSLR, as u found out by now, its a long and slippery downhill slide of ur wallet...

ur kit lens should satisfy most, if not all, shooting demands on a holiday. heck... 1 nikonian here travelled to thailand last yr with nothing more than his D100+50mm/f1.8... unless u wanna capture some specific architectural details, where u need a long zoom, ur 18-70 is good for anything from people to landscapes. a little problem when shooting indoors. but, dat can be solved with a good flash.

sigma is good value for money. check out sites like http://www.fredmiranda.com or http://www.pcphotoreview.com for lens comparisions and reviews from actual users.

buy 2nd-hand?? here's the best place to get! :bsmilie: if u looking for a specific item, just post a WTB. if not, be patient, and sooner or later some one will WTS the item u want! ;)

the price of a ball head tripod is very expensive? over $400? where i can use a ball head? i think for me most important is horizontal and easy to adjust.

"its a long and slippery downhill slide of ur wallet... " --- Nod, Nod, i haven't bought my 2nd lense, i already spent about $3000 on my photography le. no wonder, it is considered as a luxurious hobby~~~ :S

is my SB600 good enough? but seems all people here are using SB800~~~ anyway, my SB600 is already far better than the integrated flash of D70 :D

SIGMA 70-200? as i know, also many people using~~~ for me, seldom use my camera to capture a bird or architecture detail, though i still want to own a little zoom one. when i got $$$ bah...

BTW, what is the best price for a new 80-200D now? 2nd hand?

consider urself lucky in dat u got ur cam during a promo period. when i bought my first EOS300D, just the kit alone plus a 256MB CF card (with the usual assortment of filters and bag) almost set me back abt the same amt... then 1 week later, canon launched their 300D promo at the yr end IT show... AND CHEAPER!!!! :mad2:

heck... any external flash will be better than the built-in flash. same for canon and for every other camera. stick with ur sb600 lah.

sigma 70-200mm as in the sigma 70-200mm/f2.8 APO HSM lens? most people here are die hard nikon-only users... :bsmilie: me believe in buying according to the size of ur wallet. i've seen and used the canon one b4. just dun compare them with the canon L-lens (or in nikon's case, the 70-200mm/f2.8 VR). but, $-wise, its a pretty good lens to have. new ones are going for ard $1400 IIRC. dats almost $1.5-$2k cheaper than the canon 2.8 L IS USM or 2.8L USM lens (depending on where u ask). guess its the same for nikon?

i bought my D70 at about 2000. 3 month later in china, the price dropped to 6400RMB, it was about $1280, i duno it is with lense or not. and several days ago in IT show, it is 1890 with a kit lense, a 70-300 + a 1G CF le... :'( anyway, i am already much luckier than ur ONE WEEK le~~~ :D

just checked sigma 70-200HSM on internet. of coz, not as good as nikon, but also good and price much cheaper. I heard that new nikon 80-200D less than 1500 le. 2nd hand can be 800-900?

BTW, 50 1.8 and 85 1.8 which one is better for portrait shooting?

espn has lost his virus
I support BBB, but I never encourage people to take up instalment plans ;)

They give you a different perspective, if you ask me, I kinda like the 50 f/1.8 for it's weight and focal length, :) But if I have a choice, I'd take both ;p

but my wallet doesn't allow me to buy 2 lense for only portrait shooting~~~ :S

80-200mm? dat u hve to ask the nikonians already. but, for the tele, buy only when u need it becos we are talking of at least 1K. buy, if u have to, the stuff u need first. as it is, u got most of the basic stuff already. so might as well concentrate on learning how to use ur cam properly.

both 50 and 85 are excellent lenses for portrait (note: i dun call them portrait lenses cos i dun think there's such a thing as 'portrait lens'. but, dats just me...). in canon, both lenses are highly regarded prime lenses. i know of a canon wedding/event shooter who uses 85mm for his indoor pics. i had the 50mm/f1.8 for a long time when i first got my 300D. excellent lens for walking ard and learning how to shoot and compose. in the first few mths of my 300D, i was using this lens to learn portraiture photography b4 i moved on to using other lenses. ;)

thanks~~

sorry that i didn't follow for these several days, bcoz too busy~~~ endless PROGRAMMING, dammit!

anyway, how much is a 50/1.8? is it worthy getting a 50/1.4? it seems quite number of ppls own 50/1.8. and it is very cheap. i think i can start with it~~~ :)

On your kit lens, ask yourself this question: How many times have you opened the aperature at the widest and still need nore light? If you are the kind of photographer like me, who shoot at f/5.6 and above, forget the 50 f/1.8. IMHO, its a "good-to-have" piece of glass. not a really "need-to-have".

I have lived without the 50mm for as long as I am into photography. Save that $$ for other things, or to pay back that study loan.

err... seems that all ppl know about my loan le :(~~~ anyway, the 50/1.8 is cheap enough for me to own one. and when i shoot some portraits, 3.5 is too small to create the effect. can get a 50/1.8 for less than $200?

50 f/1.8 is only S$175. :)

 so cheap?! how about f1.4? the only difference is in aperture? then seems not worth buying~~~ am i right?

Heh... I did do the instalment plan... But I make sure I finish the plan first before embarking on another (if there is a need for another....) Which is why I have not bought any lense since buying the cam.... But then I got an advantage... I had my 50mm lens as well as a 2nd hand 80-300mm lens before I got my cam... Had a FM2 before this cam... I guess for my case, since I am not a particular person in wanting those trinitys that were mention... I am still "safe"!!! Which is why, if I want to get Mac mini as a secondary and dabbing system... I need to wait till end of next year! :bsmilie:

Meantime... I can only shoot, shoot and shoot in between of my work travels... ;p

If I am not wrong, and I stand corrected, the 1.4 costs in the region of SGD300++.

100% increase in price for 10% increase in performance?? Well, its your $$.

f/1.4 new is about $5xx IIRC.

The only difference I see is that half-stop of light, and the extra weight, definitely not worth the $ IYAM.

There is difference in that half-stop of light and the DOF, but frankly, to my newbie eyes, I can't discern the difference, and not too much difference in image quality against the f/1.8. :)

Soft at f/1.4 wide open however, but stepped up already gives good image quality.

$5xx ;)

then, i think i will go for 50/1.8 for my 2nd lense (including the kit lense). except the MS mentioned in the top thread, any other shop is selling it? and also have good tripod selling there. i will buy the lense and my new tripod together~~~
