None as someone pointed out you can't use rechargable batteries as the only output 1.2V. 4such batteries only output 4.8V not the 6V I require. You can use normal batteries but they will be drain in no time

no, i mean the np400 battery we use in the 5d. will it fit in the grip? btw, to make the grip really useful (for the spare battery or not), how about integrating a wireless remote into the grip's cavity? then the bp200 will provide vertical shutter release plus housing for a wireless remote. ;) km5d users will then have 3 ways to shoot ;)

Well I suppose we could put in a IR reciever circuit inside the grip. But I'll have to look for a low volatge circuit and it must be small enought to fit in the grip. As for the NP400 fitting inside I check there isn't space for it to fit in.

i wonder if have any other battery that can give 7.4 volt.
any lithium battery or rechargeable pack battery...

if someone can give more info about the circuit inside (schematic diagram)
i can really do a lot.

but so far..
ummm...

smtan how you make the BP200 stick with your body...
it seems the tripod mount is not strong enough to hold it...

The BP200 I have has some small rubber stopper on it. Similar to the type you use under your chair only smaller. As for the tripod mount its OK. I took picture of the Fullerton Hotel at Night no problem.

you DIY that one also? add thin rubber...?

Now i'm trying to make a focus lock button on the BP200...

No I purchase it from a hardware shop. You might like this site as it has IR circuit you might like. It also has the service manuals of a few of the Minolta lens.

How about some other camera battery with a smaller mAh rating, or 2 x 3.7 volt cammera batteries? Just went to the Eastgear web-site and there are a few that look promissing.

Not advisable to connect a differently-rated battery to your 7D/5D...

actually it might be just fine....

if i have the camera diagram... at least just the part after DC in...

anyway... now my 5D have focus lock... a switch basically using the On/Off switch of the BP200...

As long as the total voltage is the same it's OK. The mAh rating refers to how much current can be supplied in one hour.

see TME's post - i think he's right about mixing more than one battery, as all batteries discharge at different rates even if its same brand/ batch. it there's a single unit that can fit in the cavity AND matches the np400 (or current OEMs) it should be a lot safer. yes/no?

Trigger Happy mAh refers to max current supplied not drawn. If a battery can supply 2000mAh but the camera may or may not draw 2000mAh. It may draw only 1000mAh. So discharge rate is depended on the camera required ampere. For the Dynax 5D from AC outlet about 2A or less is required.

So if the total voltage is the same and discharge rate different it will drop below the required voltage and the camera will just cease to funtion.

ah.. thanks for the enlightenment. ;) so have you figured out what compatible battery fits in the bp200 cavity yet? haven't had time this week but likely will visit CP early next week to get the bp200.

Saw on on the internet a rechargable CRV3 rechargable. It would most likely fit. The dimensions are 2" L x 1&1/8" W x 9/16". The web page is http://thomasdistributing.com/mpc-c301.htm. It would supply the 6V required by the camera.

Hi, been reading this thread for some time, and finally got a BP-200 from ebay... I desperately need the extra grip (big hands). Once it arrives, I'll sure try the modification smtan24 talked about.. looks pretty simple. But, will I be able to lock focus? and meter?

I suppose I will, but read some posts that lead me to think I may not... can anyone clear that out? Thx in advance!

Ike.

sure can do...

it is the same as the normal horizontal shutter release...
