Try the helmet bands from Jalan Sultan. Or cut your own from old bicycle tyre inner tubes.

Hmmm thanks for the tip.

but mine cost S$1 per piece ....including the rubber band...
in a smaller form factor and can even adjust the amount of light i want to throw :)
sure, I understand, DIY is fun, I DIY lots of photographic gadgets before.

for many, make little sense to spend $80 on LSPJ just for hobby uses.
but it is not when you shoot a paid event....

anyway, have fun, and thanks for taking the effort to share with everyone.

.

meaning how many actually do manual settings on each flash. manual placement of lights etc. as far as i know people only set their only flash on the cam for vertical or horizontal shots only eg tilting the flash head. most of the time leaving the camera on auto-metering or TTL.

for local, hardly see anyone use off camera flash during wedding day, becasue this is a event coverage.

even most the time photographers set the flash at TTL mode, is still able to use the flash compensation dial to fine tune the flash output.

beside using direct flash, photographers can use ceiling bounce, wall bounce, bounce card, omni bounce, LSII etc.

the most important thing, photographers also can turn off the flash for some shots, so I don't understand why you said this

i wonder how many photogs actually do full control of their lightings during AD shoot etc???

I got the foam paper from Spotlight at Plaza Singapura.
Look for it at Row 7. Comes in pack of 3 sheets for $4.99
I also found out that Art Friends at Ngee Ann City also carry such paper. Those at Spotlight are better as they are sealed in plastic bags thus cleaner and whiter.
For mounting i used velco around the flash head... Gotta look for heavy duty black rubber band.. ANybody know where to get those?

the shadows are more harsh with the better bounce card?

what i observed

1) the "abetter bounce card" throw more light forward, so the recharge rate of the flash is faster and battery will last longer.
it feels like direct flash since the shadow is thrown to the back directly and the shadow is not duffused.

2) "my diy bounce card" lighting is softer and even.
look at the black CPU. the whole surface is more evenly lited.
the monitor does not show the "hot spot".
the shadow of "D-Link" unit is softer.
there is no shadow of my canon film scanner on the table.

at this point of time, i prefer the one i made. will update when i try using the 2 cards to shot human subject.

I think the thing here is that the abetter bounce card throws a significant amount of light forward, hence the harsher shadows. Your DIY bounce card throws less light forward, and relies on the light that is bounced off the ceiling to light up the subject, hence the softer shadows.

Ideally, there's a ceiling to bounce the light. However, not all places have a ceiling to bounce light off. So I believe there are different uses for each.

Cheers!

speaking for myself
when no ceiling, if i need to light, i use direct flash.
when no ceiling, if i only want some fill in or catch light in the eyes, i go 45-60deg bounce.

end of test. my d60 flash circuit kaput liao. error 99 when using flash.

Sorry not familiar with the shops in Beach Rd... care to point me in the right direction? What's the shop's name and/or where exactly located? Thanks.

Saw this setting in one wedding dinner and tot it might work for you too...

Dude.. I hate to break it to you.. but I think your version of the bounce card is next to useless.. It'll only be useful because of the low ceiling. It'll be totally useless in any outdoor/no ceiling environment.

Just to amend the above statement. I feel that any creation of
bounced card should be appreciated. At least the creator wants to
do something different and should produce the results he wants.

To say that Dennis DIY bounced design is "totally useless in any
outdoor/no ceiling environment" is uncalled for. Can you proof it
that his design is totally useless in this respect as to light up the
subject. You must give some example. ;p
