Now I am thinking of stripping my E3 of the AA filter. Have a second E3 with and see what happens. Hmmm... :think:

the image was provided by a photozone reader, taken by a E510 with AA filter removed. the lens used should be the ZD50/f2 @ f6.3 based on the EXIF.

Oh man i wish i can turn off the AA filter on my camera! OLY pls let us have the option!!!

im pretty sure my e620 doesnt have iso200 images this bad :dunno: it looks like something taken by a PnS

I'm interested to do this for my old E510 too. heheh. the trade off will be nIR contamination of colours and possibly moire effects when shooting lines.

the AA filter is a physical filter between the SSWF and the sensor so it will be a complicated process to be done only by someone who knows what they are doing.

photozone has done a preview of the E620...alot of analysis into the resolution and the effects of the AA filter.

as pointed out here in this dpreview forum thread http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1022&message=32024654 check out the corner sharpness and the resolution of the E510 sensor!

One of the other forum sites did a test where the Panasonic DMC-L10 came out on top for keeping detail. Olympus just isn't getting their AA filters right since the time they were so worried about low light banding. The filter needs to be adaptive.

Check out the review of the 500D on DPreview! Check out the DR of the E620 there. Seems like Olympus is keeping their word. Or maybe it's just the tonal curve they adjusted...

If you were at the post PMA show, you would have seen it for yourself, the demonstration was there, with the results there for you see.

But enough talk about comparisons. Most importantly, Olympus has increased the Dynamic Range of the new series of cameras and therefore allowing more creativity in photography. Glad they are delivering what they have promised consumers.

No i mean we should have an option to TURN off or at least down the hardware filter using the interface, not physically remove it ourselves

I don't think that is possible as it is a piece of hardware filter, not a software controllable thing, if I am not wrong... Maybe as development in technology allows, we can see a computer controlled AA filter using organic materials. Anything is possible if R&D money is poured into it... but when, no one knows.

It would be great if such technology is developed...right now the combined AA and IR-cut filter is a piece of glass. see this image by Stefan from 43photo. The blue glass is the AA / IR-cut filter.

yeah pretty good review. looks like they really spent time with the e-620 and appreciated it a lot despite the shortcomings

First impressions of the E620 :

Bad :
1. Ain't gonna replace my E3 anytime soon. The shutter sound sucks compared to the E3.
2. The handgrip is indeed not ideal. Hold it for anything longer than 10 minutes, and my little finger knuckle will start to hurt. Never experienced that on my E3.

Good :
1. Art filter is indeed nice and fun
2. Imager AF (live view AF) works like a charm
3. Noise control very good - ISO 1000 does not seem to be a problem at all
4. LCD screen is noticeably brighter and larger

Complaints :
1. Why Oly cannot standardize their USB cable for all their DSLRs??!!! The E3 and the E620 USB head all different.
2. Sucks that I now need a different charger and battery system for the E620

Oops, sorry my bad. I was feel that site has some biasness towards Olympus. So I rather it be '"He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" :bsmilie:

But with the recent products from Olympus, that site appears to be more receptive and less bias.... my personal opinion, of course.

Phil Ashkey doesn't seem to be doing any of the Olympus reviews any longer, save some contribution on the E-P1.

I've noticed that the C and N users have been trying to bury the Four-thirds models in the "cameras receiving the most clicks" as there were 3 models in the top 3 receiving the most clicks, including the E-620. If Olympus continues to find its way, it might be a regular occurrence. :bsmilie:
