How many people owns the "ISO-King" camera and lugs it along for breakfast or a walk in the park?

E-620 is so small & versatile, i see it going to so many more places & situations. Opportunity to capture a prize moment is much more. Looking at a good picture, viewers are generally very forgiving about the ISO.

There's always Noise Ninja or Imagenomic NoiseWare for post processing junkies. :bsmilie: Go ahead and buy the cam!

Confession: Yes, I'm poisoned [badly] by the E-620.

The e620 is priced at US$100 less than than the upcoming 500d. Let's see which will attract more sales

the biofos reviews sums it up nicely...

Of course, looking at noise (or any other attribute) in isolation is not wise. We all know the 4/3rds chip is more prone to noise than larger sensors and if high ISO noise-free imaging is your goal then you must look elsewhere. But the company has made progress with each new sensor and Olympus also offer other features like in-body image stabilization that allows you to use much lower shutter speeds (and therefore lower ISO) to deliver clean imaging. You need to look at the Olympus package in the round, so to speak. Smaller and lighter bodies, built-in body based IS for any lens, compact and high quality lenses right down to 'kit' level, inherent sharpness and fidelity and the famous Olympus jpg processing delivers beautiful and accurate colours; these things conspire to produce top quality imaging straight from the camera.

To me the E-620 represents a watershed for four-thirds. This camera now defines what four-thirds can offer to the everyday photographer - excellent imaging with no compromises; sensible body and lens sizes; a great finder and improved AF system; quick and responsive processing; super ergonomics; huge feature set; IS for all lenses; fully useable Live View operation with poseable screen; lots of artsy opportunities. And all at a reasonable cost. Without doubt, Olympus has a winner on its hands.

must b a strategic reason. the e-620 i had during the hands-on is pretty dandy. Maybe wanna verify the market survey and price appropriately. (ok, wishful thinking on my part)

Sorry for sounding like such a newbie but is this a good choice for a 1st DSLR? I was considering the Panny G1 as well until I saw this cam. Other choices shortlisted were the Canon 450D and the Oly E-520

if you were considering the e-520, the notable improvements in e-620 are a slightly bigger viewfinder, 7-pt AF, slightly smaller and lighter body, swivel lcd... among others

E-system owners are quite excited about this so if you are interested in the E-system as well then its worth considering

And to add on, the G1 is a great camera, but lenses are limited at this time, especially if you must have auto focus. I think the E-620 is a good camera to start with, it'll last you a long time

While the "old faithfuls" rave on and on about the 4xx series and 6xx and G1 (same size) as the new OM of today, do bear in mind today it is the digital era and the handling of the camera is different from before. Best advise is still to be spending time to handle the camera twice with time apart (best if you put a week between handling), before deciding if the new "OM vibe" cameras are for you. There is a reason why the E-30 and E-3 form factor is still a draw to many.

That said... I still want to rave and rave and rave about the E-620!!! "Hurray Olympus!"

Ok, got that out of my system... sorry...

serious note :
Viewfinder coverage is STILL an important factor to many, and the smaller form factor cameras has this disadvantage. Something to think about. Though the improved Live View with Contrast Detection lenses makes things a lot more easier. Take all these things into account before blowing your money and then getting disappointed. That said, I have used all cameras from Olympus without much problems.

I shortlisted the E-520 before I found out about the E-620. After reading about the improvements, I think I should be lucky I didn't get tempted by the offer from the IT show. Also, I decided against the 450D because it's about a year old already although there was a good offer at the IT show too.

Also, thanks for your feedback and opinions. They are much appreciated and certainly helped me in deciding on the E-620

Perhaps you may want to consider the 450D replacement 500D which has video capabilities

I'm kinda leaning towards the Oly because of the swivel screen. My current cam is an old Powershot A95 and I really find a swivel screen to be a boon to have.

Yep. I am using E3 and it is a joy to have.
I have taken shots from inside the plane and I can aim using live-view + swivel LCD.

At least I can compose correctly and pray the AF is correct, compared to other camera where blind shot means that I need luck on both AF and composition.

Also I never has to be in compromising position like lying down on the street.
