Have had the S3 since Dec last year, and I must say that I've been ridiculously happy with the quality of the output since day one. No doubt read/write speed is a slug. No doubt I cannot do 3fps/5fps/8fps/300fps (like I need that?). No doubt also that I've had many detractors who'd quote tech specs, reviews and a ton of stuff to point out the stupidity of my buy.
But most important questions to fellow S3 users and potential buyers -
1. What Are You Using Your Cam For?
While this varies from person-to-person, it relates directly to the next questions.
2. How Important Is Color/Saturation To Ypu?
Skin-tones - absolutely gorgeous, and real. Reflection, like myself, shoot a lot of human portraits in the course of our work. I'm sure he can tell you how precious this is. It is the same for me.
Studio conditions - F1 mode rocks!
Landscapes and buildings - I don't need to bother about Velvia/Provia/Sensia.... it's ALL IN THE CAM. Yippee!
Macros/close-ups - I do a lot of flora. S2 Pro/S3 Pro excel in this department. I think VincentLin will love it too....
3. How Much Do You Want To Post-Process?
Loading curves and tweaking is no fun for me, even though I do it for some of my shots.
The other option is you can go shoot RAW... and enjoy working with arguably the largest RAW Files around....
The rest of the time, it is a matter of getting used to your toys/tools. If you are a bird shooter, there are quite a few very competent birders outside of Sg who'd swear by the S3. Though personally, I'd rather go Canon (their long-range gear is better). And I like what the D2X has to offer too, just that I do not like the weight. There is bound to be issues, so we learn from them. If fellow S2/S3 users in here wish, I can do a dedicated Fuji gathering every month? Just let me have a sense of which day of the week you prefer.
Now, w.r.t. the battery trays, can I have a show of hands/posts who's still keen? Fuji Sg should be getting them in before end of month, so I'll want to remind them again.
