Yeah and I can't stand PC laptop's speed and battery life. I get a 2 ghz and it'll juz keep stepping down to some pathetic clock speed and yet the battery will die rapidly

after testing for a while, i think its still kinda useless... ok maybe not... it just lighten my load of removing the CF to PC & back & forth...

Note.. there is no shutter button for the software, no preview of aperture/shutter, nothing... only shoot, den it send to the PC... thats about all...

have to applaude is the speed it send is quite fast... esp with even RAW

Taking the CF card in and out frequently is going to wear out the CF slot lor....

Nikon Capture can do remote shooting.

Dimage Transfer can only do tethered shooting. Maybe they will release another software for remote shooting. But it will probably come with a price tag.

Cheers!

I think if u read Dpreview, the new firmware has some new transfer options which include remote control... speculation is that it might be wireless USB or even wifi... I think the camera already has something built-in which would allow this take place... I think another speculation is that Minolta may release a USB wireless transmitter that can be attached to the camera's USB port and it can communicate with the PC that way.... not sure what it is... all speculation now but the stuff that is in the new firmware (I think it's under transfer options or something equivalent) is highly interesting!

The option is "Remote Storage" for tethered shooting. Still can't remotely control the camera to shoot via software.

Cheers!

There is another PTP section which seems to control transfer protocol... according to what I understand what some forummers in Dpreview said, it's likely to be some protocol for wireless communication... at present the tethered mode is already a reality with this firmware upgrade... maybe the next upgrade may see a wireless option with some necessary purchases....

Er... Sorry to shatter your dreams, but PTP is picbridge ley...

But of course if they wanna have a wireless transfer function with a new accessory, I reckon they can do it with a firmware update.

'technically' every camera can do wireless... the only thing they need to do is which set of protocol to use, den which brand of wireless system they incorporate, den use the appropriate hardware... and the firmware that can activate the wireless from the camera side, and then the software from the pc side... viola..

but, its going to be tedious, and very expensive, esp if not much ppl will buy it, dun expect it to be free thou...

i think they have done a great job with the new firmware, and to get a free transfer software is good enough.. to get a capture software (now i know y its called transfer & not capture) i guess its going to cost us money like the nikon system.

Nah, simpler, Use Dimage Transfer tethered to a wirelessly networked lappied in a haversack. Assign to put the images into a folder that is shared on the network, or if the network is stable enuff, just assign it to save onto a network folder (in the base station's work station). And go shoot. The people at the base station will retrieve the through the network, and do watever you want with it, for example put it into a slide show. With such a setup, the organiser of a function can actually have a slideshow running showing the function almost real time. Just make sure the lappie don't hibernate when the cover is closed.

DCA is right... how many of us here will pay for a wireless system? Do we need it? Maybe if u do studio work but what is so hard about pressing a remote cable button... the way I see it, Minolta can easily make a transceiver that attaches to the USB port, and then make a partner for the PC. Once they decide which protocol to use, I think that's it. We have a completely remote system - can transfer files and take pics remotely.

Oh Man!!!!

You just remind me of one thing.....my Acer PDA allows direct connection to USB storage device.....Oh Man!!!!! this could be the D7D.....i will go try out tomorrow....cable is at work...!!!!

Hmmm... maybe it won't work with remote transfer mode as I believe it needs specific instructions that dimage transfer uses, but i think if you set the 7D as remote storage mode, it might work

Hiee Flare...thanks for triggering this thought....

Not realizing thnat i can actually preview pics vis PDA with direct connection to the Camera...larger LCD.....!!! - juz for fun type of thing....

Remote storage don't work as there is a need for specific protocol on the PDA.

Would the res of the LCD be better than that of the LCD? I mean in terms of pixel density or whatever u call it....

Actually no, i think even the new pocket pc has the maximum resolution around the region og 640x480, i think 7D's screen has much more pixel than that.
