i didn't planned to get the D300 before the D300s come out... why i bought the D300s over the D90

The most impt thing is that now every tom, dick harry is lugging a DSLR (go orchard and see) ..from lians to bengs... must have a bigger one (with the model on the strap) for the "Oooomp" factor mah haha :bsmilie:

I think THIS IS the only factor:D So you are goin to get the grip to make it even bigger like the D3x to shoot down all the Chao Bengs & Lians?

No lah no need the grip, the burst rate already good enuff already... somemore the batt life also not bad wat... dun really need the grip... (not light leh). w/o the grip still shoot down all the lians and bengs haha... :bsmilie:

Anyway to me, if i buy the D90 still like no upgrade at all from my D80.... still 2 digit...
:bsmilie:

u cannot compare with same series one lah. if u compare with d50 to d90, confirm got some upgrade right? like wise for d90/d80 to d300s. of cos, it is always better to upgrade to the best of the better models.

d300s seems a little heavy with sb900

of cos if u dun nid/use many of the extra features that d300s have then no use also...buy something tat's suitable for u. I also considered d90 but i really wan to fast frame rate and the 9 bracket shots ..the 51af nt so much. Knw wat u wan and make ur choice accordingly.anyway nw gt $ also can't get d300s, out of stock everywhere. I managed to get the last set frm ms, i was lucky i called 1min earlier...

That's bcos D90 is the flagship all time favourite cam of Nikon riding high at the moment. Could turn out to be the best seller. one reason I got this cam is that I get the best of both worlds of Prosumer & Pro without being intimidated by the 'Pro' side too much. But as I get more proficient I'l look at D300s or if $ allows FF;p but stil keep D90:lovegrin:

Try holding it and aim 10mins at birds to wait for the right moment, u nid strong and big biceps as well hahaha

hahaha.. you got that right.. i'm currently using my 17-55 F2.8 plus battery grip.. alto the combo looks really sexy.. need some muscles to hold.. also i compensate that with the rapid multi shots so i won't miss out anything..

and i'm being task as backup to shoot my sis in law's wedding.. better train up.. let's not forget i still have the flash and additional batteries to carry.. arrghh!!

That is a fallacy. You'll miss more than what you get... Unless you're shooting sports which you have no control over anyway, you could miss that frame right smack in the middle of 2 consecutive shots that you have absolutely no control over.

Remember that second body.....

this is quite true.. but my experience is with rapid shots i get to keep 1 or 2 that i like, sometimes with "that one moment" i miss completely.. maybe i have to work on visualizing the perfect picture more before i snap..

my second body is my Ixus 860..

like i told them.. i'll try my best.. don't expect too much.. :sweatsm:

Need some time to get used to D300's weight though, at least for me

But right now, no regrets :D I am happy choosing D300 over D90 :D

Yeah.. sometimes that's a way out when you don't have the confidence, having 1 or 2 passable shots is better than getting nothing. For me, I find reliability of equipment very important to me. I get the complete faith that when I release the shutter, I'm going to get that shot.

Nevertheless, just do your best because that will give you valuable experience. Again, try not to hamper the paid photographer. Try to cover things which he/she is not covering like other family members etc.. Of course, can also try some similar shots as the main photographer so that you can benchmark yourself in terms of 'the right moment' and composition.

Basically cameras nowadays take good care of the exposure and focus, so you can concentrate more on the composition and 'the right moment'. Again, it demands that you know a lot about the characteristics of your camera and you are able to trust that with the settings in place, you know that you'll be getting what you want when you release the shutter.

Have fun!! :)

actually menu almost the same as the D90.. right out of the box.. D90 is perfect! it has also a fisheye effect on board which is not on the D300s.. (can save money buying a fisheye lens..) :bsmilie:

Dear All,

This is my first post in this forum. Sorry for the interuption, not sure if polite to post in this thread. Let me know so I can delete.
The heading of this thread raised the same question in my head. I am not a DSLR owner cos don't know much but would like to get one. The issue is I am using for prime focus photography through a telescope so not sure if the functions in the D90 / D300 / D300s is still applicable or disabled. Would like to get your opinions.

Thanks

oh ya forgot to add, the D300 has a better WB sensor also 1005 pixel vs 420 pixels...:)

No.. it doesn't work the same as a fisheye lens. Was hoping that they do the reverse instead, the ability to defish the FE10.5, then dun need to get an ultrawide. ;p

Any one with experience on astro and nikon cam, can help this member out?

It works. Need to shoot in manual exposure mode. D300/D300s might be a bit heavy if the scope is small. Need quite a bit of counterweight on equatorial mount for balance.

D90 is ideal. If the object is bright, eg moon, Jupiter, you may be able to use LiveView to obtain a very good focus. Otherwise, a focus magnifier like the DG-2 or DR-6 would be useful.

I even tried some eyepiece projection but ran out of time for me because Jupiter was rising and it's gone above my window when I was trying, so I gave up.
