not very advisable to keep very low developing times. it doesn't take too long to get the temp down. I usually process at night, 2~3 cubes of ice gets it down to 20degC. And, I use a <10$ digital thermometer from Ikea (I think it is used to measure meat temp).

I taking a B+W course in school now. T-max developer for T-max 400 films. The developing time is 7 min at 20C (temperature very critical). then stop bath of 1 min. fixer 4 min (temperature not important). running water to wash or use hypo clearing agent, then dry loh, should be able to get good result.

what about t-max 100film?? does stop bath and fixer make a difference

stop bath usually only 1 min.

Fixer about 4-5 mins. u need to premix according to instruction, usually temperature not important.

u can google universal developer chart for Tmax 100. they basically have everything even for different dilution.

then, more diluted developer and longer time usually give u a smaller grain, however, the temperature control needs to be more precise.

Not really.. The Stip bath and Fixer timings are minimums... if you exceed thats okay... but dont do things like leaving the film on stop bath or fixer overnight or something crazy like that...

Do factor in extra developing time if your developer is used...as in do you recycle and re-use a few time before throwing them away.

tmax 400 film using tmax developer a suitable combi is 1:4 ratio, develop 4 to 4.5mins, 1st 0.5min agitate, then agitate for 5s every 0.5min. 1:100 ratio is abit too extreme lah.

stop bath 1 to 1.5min. leave too long won't affect the film. stop bath is just to neutralise the developer (alkaline) so that your fixer (acidic) won't wear out so quickly. (fixer and stop bath can be re-used for quite a number of times). time to change stop-bath when it turns purple (ilfostop); ilford put in a pH indicator - if yellow still can use once purple throw away.

fixer 3-4min or longer if you don't feel safe. fixer wont affect film even if you leave it in for too long.
