Dell 27 inch monitor users, please help

An Apple or Eizo will not solve your problems unless it comes with a calibrator.

Go out and buy a Eyeone Display2 or Spyder2. Most LCDs are way too bright uncalibrated even at minimum settings.

What resolution did you set it at? It should be 2560x1600. Did you check if your card has a DVI Dualink output?

i calibrated using spyder2pro.
and i tell u this monitor is way too bright!now my eyes hurt...really!

dualink means the card has 2 dvi 'outlet' right?
i'm really not sure but mine only has one if you were referring to that.
i think my 7600geforce cant support this monitor.:cry:

Mine is perfectly alright with the brightness at minimum after calibration with Eyeone display 2. Whats your luminance level at 120cdm or 140cdm? Mine is at 120.

Erm, I think I twice asked you to check your graphics card specs prior to switching. DVI Dualink is not the same as Dual DVI outputs. Duallink outputs greater bandwidth to support higher resolutions and refresh rates.

Your room ambient lighting also plays a part, if it is too dark, your moniter will seem glaring. I used to use a Sony G420 calibrated with my eye-one and I feel just at home with the 30".

my ambient is 4 downlights at 18 watts energy saving each.should be more than sufficient.

1. Don't have to check video cards these days as practically all are duallink.
2. Probably have to worry more about Dell shipping a single link cable then anything. (Seriously, i've seen more than 4 cases so)
3. If the monitor already displays 2560 resolution, its definitely dual link. case closed

AFAIK, you should always be able to perform calibration at the brightness level you roughly want. 120 cdm2 is just nice. I'm just guess the spyder is overriding everything to balance the strong ambient light. My designers work in an environment that's a little brighter than lounge settings.. Nice n relaxing.

i checked already.mine is duallink.
how do i check 120 cdm2 and such?step by step please?

so now if the monitor is too bright after calibration, can i use the nvidia option to tune down the brightness THEN do spyder calibration?
any cons to it?
else, i'll really have to throw this back to dell coz no way i'm going to strain my eyes though i like the 30''.

Do you need such a big LCD and the rest of the stuff when this is merely a hobby, unless this is a job you are doing for.

LCD is definetly brighter unless you want to choose Cinema Display. Of course, to get the best output, you better come a long with Mac Pro or what so ever.

But the funniest thing is, why don't you search out in the net for your graphic card resolution which able to match your 30" monitor. Why throw when you had not understand / read every single thing?

Get i1 if you think Spyder cannot meet your requirement.

i dont need a big lcd.
i dont need a d200.
i dont need a car.
i dont need *many other things*

all these are luxury items.nice to have, but not a necessity.
though i'm not a pro photog, but i like what i'm doing and i'm willing to get above average stuffs lor.

when i bought the computer, it came with sooooo many boxes.
why keep them?so i buang lor.:embrass:
moreover, i'm not interested in technical stuffs, so dont expect me to read through all the manuals.

in fact, i just went to have a look at apple displays just now during lunch.
no big deal about them.
to, dell works just as good.
my dell already cost me 2.5k.the apple 30 incher is 3k.
another 500 bucks to 'solve' this problem?i really dont know.

i should have stuck to my 19 inch philips which i had given away.damn it.

Technical or no technical, you still have to read up to know more and understand their usage and their limitation. Even you had threw the boxes away, there's always internet to find the entire information.
