I like this one. Simple, good lighting and strong impact. Just realised the "flipped", also very :thumbsup: Can be a wall poster.

I started playing with photog from dance photog. Very tricky. Lighting, timing and dancers' performance. Stopped when daughter stopped dancing....may be she'll take it up again in the U.

#10 was a great shot, but the extreme right girl was out of alignment and that spoils the (dance) pic.

#13 was good.

#18 male dancer good, girl right foot not pointed (minus 9 pts) and appeared very heavy on the partner...sometimes the timing...but i think she did not pull-up enough as a dancer.

#19 another great shot - can submit to magazine /poster but spoiled by the extreme right boy. If only he was the same as the rest and only the girl was turning back....It'd be fantastic!!

Your dance photography was :thumbsup::thumbsup:.
Good capture of lighting, + mood + timing.
Hm....dancers (20-30%) not good enough for you....

Thanks for sharing. Inspiring.

Thanks esther for taking the time. Appreciate the detailed comments.

For me, dance photography is an unfamiliar ground, and I always feel that a photographer with a dance background (which I don't) would be more competent in getting the shots- both in terms of composition and the attempt in bringing out the "energy of the dancer" (as one of my dancing friend put it).

For me, there were shots that I felt were nice, but to the dancers themselves, they feel that I did not really capture the essence of the piece.

So admittedly for some shots, maybe it wasn't the dancers' fault, it could be that I couldn't appreciate the timing,choreography and poses involved when I choose to press the shutter. :)

Anyway, I would say that the experience was an eye opener for me.

Excellent B&W series! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Great shots. Can you share your camera settings? Did you use spot metering? Auto or manual focus? iso and f-numbers?

Thanks

Using a 5D and 85mm f1.8. Settings vary 1/100-1/125s, ISO 500-1000. Auto focus.
