*clap clap clap clap* :bsmilie:

Thinking of that also, but looking at Photo Clam as well - PC40NS (bigger ball - 40mm, bigger load - as an insurance), an in-between size between Q3E and M10.

depends on what you feel is required.
Q3E's load capacity already WAyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy exceeds my heaviest set-up.
Chose it because I like the smoothness of the operation and the quality of the finish. Compared to the Benro KB-1, it costs about 50% more, but in actual dollars the difference is $130+, which I think I can live with.

Maybe you might wanna try out PC40NS - from what I've heard it's just as smooth. But I'm going to test it out myself soon. And price - wise wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Q3Es.... :bsmilie:

nope... not true! :)
I got my Q3E for slightly more than the best price I could find for photoclam PC-33N, let alone PC-40N.
No doubt the photoclam looks like a quality product as well, but I prefer the design and finish of the Q3E.

to each his own la... no point trying to poison each other :bsmilie:

you should get the photoclam and we can then do a side-by-side comparison! :)
I like the way it's made as well. The knobs are really smooth to operate, and the tension knob can be adjusted just nice to let the camera 'drag' and stay there.
I hesitated on getting it, coz I knew that with the poisoning I was receiving, I would always ask 'what if'... and so I decided against the photoclam.

Actually, looking at prices, Photoclam is less than $100 cheaper than Markins. If you buy Markins online, Photoclam is only cheaper by $30-50. With that small difference, I will go for Markins.

that was my thought process too...

Btw, I've just given Q3E a very hard look, and I'm curious which version you're getting in ZCA. And i'm not refering to the Quick Release / Turn Release either... :D

After much deliberation, I may still go for the Q3E.... or T.... T model fits VERY snuggly to N2204 (great combo)... E model, okay fit (wider base) but color only limited to black (the version I wanted). I know there's a red or blue E, but not the version I'm hoping for...

Harrow! I'm so excited when I saw this thread,I just bought my new D90 today :D It's actually my first cam,so I guess I will be hanging around here to learn from all of you. Do guide me along please! :D

18-200 if u want more reach. But isn't 18-105 the kit I? Or u haven't got your camera?

Yup, just got the it today with kit lens. Finally join the dark side.. :) aiming for long zoom lens next maybe 70-300 vr or prime lens 35mm f1.8

Trying to digest all the function and menu so I could use it tml.... :)

Q3E only has 2 versions wat... either with knob or lever...
Markins product line-up is quite minimal
Q3T is almost the same as Q3E, but some parts slightly smaller/narrower in order to fit snugly on Gitzo Traveller tripod (ie legs can fold fully).
So if you don't have those kind of traveller tripod (I don't), then no point to pay extra for T version.

Well, that's what everyone thinks... but there has been some changes, quite oblivious to the eye until you really take notice of the differences. ;-)

Ok ok lah... I'll stop torturing you... The differences are the positions of the panning knob... Older knobs are still in the -45 degrees position from the huge tightening screw. The new ones are at -90 degrees - this is to facilitate complete close up of the tripod legs. So far only one normal black version (with knob) has the 90 deg... the coloured ones don't. And the T models - I believe have all of them at 90 deg... However all colours with quick release have them at 90 deg (bummer - I don't want quick release)... Don't take my word for it - there's only one place where you can see all this - go check it yourself. Or go check Markins USA website - very clear images and they don't even tell you about the differences...

Initially, I discounted Markins a bit because of the 45 deg position of the panning knob versus Photo Clam's 90 deg... Now I kinda like them even better (too bad not on all colours on the normal knob release) My T-Legs are not travel type, but can be reverse folded just as well, so could appreciate the 90 deg relocation. Did try the 45 deg - and... don't want to elaborate any further, but I just really don't like it.

However, if you don't need to reverse fold, 45 or 90 deg position will not matter much - you're right on that.

I guess I'll just have to get my Markins locally - E and T model are priced exactly the same. What costs more is if you choose the quick release type (doesn't matter E or T). At least I can see what I've purchased, whereas on the internet - I'm not even sure the sellers know about the differences and may use the older image (or not). Caveat Emptor... (sigh)

I prefer 45 degrees so that the panning knob and the main tension knob are not too far apart. I would have the tension knob to my left and the panning knob would be 45 degrees toward me and to the side, instead of directly toward my face (and neck) when trying to compose.

edit: I must check if mine is 90 degrees or not.. If 90 then suck thumb lor :) Might have to turn the tension knob slightly more forward so that the panning knob is not near my neck.

The guy told me to buy some cpl lens to block off reflection and I was wondering if that is important? How much is the price? The guy quoted me $130.

Conrats!! How does it feel? Gd right? Haha. Anyway its a little difficult to digest the manual and understand all the functions of the camera if you have no prior experience with a DSLR. Tt said, it would more difficult to grasp concepts like the aperture, shutter speed,WB etc., all in a day. Sorry but this is only my personal opinion. Sorry if i'm wrong. Haha

Don't buy first. Do your research here before buying.

It is a CPL filter. and there are many brands with different pricing. Don't get ripped off. RESEARCH FIRST.

kit lens thread is 67mm... $130 for a CPL filter for this lens seems quite excessive, considering that the lens costs only about $300.
CPL can cut reflections in some cases, but isn't some sort of magic tool.
as daredevil123 advised, read up first. Don't get pressured into a purchase unnecessarily.
