I always see D90 as something in btw a 500/550D and a D50 ... maybe not right in the middle, but its scaled like this:

Starter|= 550D----------D90---50D =|Prosumer

I have not used a 50D but popularity wise, D90 over shadowed 50D

U are comparing apple to orange, D300 then is in the same league as 50D

nope, you're wrong. i'm comparing a fuji apple to a pink lady apple. my intention is to highlight both 50D and D90 are prosumer, and both above entry level DSLR, both targeted to different consumer groups

i am not surprised and i guess its due to the price ... D90 is really good value

Hi,
I got my D90 for about 6 months already. It came with the 18-105 kit lens. I got the 50mm F1.8 also.
I'm thinking of getting a F2.8 lens. Would any D90 users care to share their experience with the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 non-VC lens?

Thanks.

Use the search function. The lens has been discussed till death with sample pictures and all.

I think both cameras are targeted at multiple target segments due to their feature set and flexibility.

The disparity between models is actually about how the Canon and Nikon each do their product placement.

50D is short of between a D90 and D300 but closer to D90. And 500D is between a D90 and D60 (back then). And the pricing does reflect this placement too. Nothing wrong with this. So that is why it is so hard to compare a Canon model to a Nikon model, simply because there is no direct equivalent competitor at the same level for each camera model. The thing is, Nikon decided to step it up with the D5000 by stripping some features from the D90, bringing it down to match the 500D at the same level/playing field.

Fair enough then, tat said, each bears it's own uniqueness and appeal in terms of features and performance, to cater for the vast consumer grp who choose to sit in between

My sentiments exactly brother

All D90'ers,
wondering if any of you guys are using the Nikkor 18-200 VRII with the D90?

I find my system do not give me satisfactory sharpness, at times, even worse than an Ixus! I played with all aperture and speed, tripod, on-off VR. Tried it on my Sigma 150-500, and finally my manual prime lens Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. The worse is the long gun, the rest is also barely make it.

Not sure if it is my D90, any advise?

Thx in advance.

Hi MacroMarlin,

Have you checked the Picture Control settings in the Menu ? Perhaps you can tweak the sharpness setting in there.

I experienced different levels of sharpness using the same setting with different lenses.
Used the 18-105 kit lens with a setting and it's as sharp as a tack.
But used the same setting with a Tamron 18-250 and the image is soft.

Just my experience though :)

This is interesting! You say that you are tweaking with sharpness setting there?

Tried but not extensive, so far seems like not much effect for me...unfortunately.:dunno:

If you have tried to get a sharp image by focusing manually and was still unsuccessful then it's high chance that your D90's focusing mechanism gizmo is a bit out of alignment, calibration or something like that.

Perhaps you should bring it to the service centre then :(

Maybe you can post an example here with EXIF data. So we can isolate the problem for you.

Sad to announce that I will no longer be a D90 owner. Decided to give it up and move on. But I will forever be a fan of the D90 and will still hang around to answer any questions here. It is indeed a great camera and will go down in history as one of the defining moments in camera history.
