Hi guys, anyone can enlighten me what difference does it makes when we select "raw+fine" and taking individual "raw" or "fine", apart of being able to take both quality at the same time?

RAW+fine = when you snap, 2 files are saved to your SD card. One is NEF file (raw) and one JPEG (big size)

RAW = when you snap, only 1 NEF file is stored.

FINE = when you snap, only 1 JPEG file is stored.

Personally, I am shooting RAW+basic. If I need a quick web image, I will use the jpeg. If I want good quality, I will process the RAW file and export. But it is your preference, really.

So, do you mean the quality of the image will be the same for "RAW+Fine" and "Raw" or "Fine" taken separately?

Think u got it mixed up bro ~

FINE only applies for JPEG

RAW will be RAW~

I understand. What I mean is "Raw+Fine" will be = 1 Raw and 1 Fine. So if I take these 2 image to compare with another image taken by individual Raw and Fine, they are same?

Not the same because this is 1 shot 2 files. The other is 2 shots, so time is different, and if subject is moving, it will be different.

In a similar settings with the same equiment and the same enviroment, same subject (static) etc, the answer is YES.

Note that FINE literally means better quality to the JPEG output (Other factors to consider is ur JPEG settings and Pic controls settings)

Thanks Numnumball, guess you know what I'm trying to ask. The image quality will be the same.

under the same reproducible settings it shldnt be different! :)

I've a photo buddy who uses a 40D while I use a D90. He doesn't like the nikon UI + ergonomics and vice versa for me. My bugbears for the 40D are the inferior lcd playback (can't determine sharpness well enough) and slightly poorer ISO noise lvl.

I feel that its all a matter of getting use to. There are CSers who uses both system concurrently! Use your 40D long enough and you'll start to enjoy the Canon system too.

Ya bro... since now Vit M is short in supply, will use the 40D for a while more and see how it goes..... although thinking of going back to Nikon for its familiar UI, but somehow the output from 40D kind of make me think a few times.... not that D90 is inferior....... see if the UI from 40D will drive me crazy or the output will make in fall in love even more....

I am looking for a guy who bought a D90 at IT show on Friday afternoon. He also helped a lady bought a SB600 and Nikon lens. If you are reading this, please send me a PM or email at rejoice137@live.com.sg. Thanks a lot.

the simple answer is "yes" cos in quite a lot of function an features they r similar and it was between this 2 DSLR that i was chosing b4 i got my D90, but then if really go into details, it would be "no" cos the canon 50D is targetted at semi-pro level and have certain features like weather seal, faster fps, whereas the D90 is a prosumer DSLR

i beg to differ, isn't 50D a prosumer also?

50D has better features compare to D90, but this does't make D90 not a semi-pro. In fact both are semi-pro level. Just that D90 is targeting at amateurs who prefer lighter, budget friendly yet still a good semi-pro SLR.

Hi,
I got my D90 for about 6 months already. It came with the 18-105 kit lens. I got the 50mm F1.8 also.
I'm thinking of getting a F2.8 lens. Would any D90 users care to share their experience with the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 non-VC lens?

Thanks.

MS

U are comparing apple to orange, D300 then is in the same league as 50D
