I don't think it's necessary. I myself didn't notice it till someone mentioned it. :)

Darn it. I checked my D90 and only just realized that the fine line is visible if I focus (my eyes) close :) Why did you have to mention it? ;)

Haha. I usually don't pay tt much attention other than my gridlines as long as focus is spot on. Not my fault bro. Someone else previously mentioned the line in a previous D90 thread.

I think someone gave an explaination that it's something like a wire. After all, we don't expect our focusing screens or viewfinders to be able to conduct electricity do we? :)

No, of course I know it's there, but just that looking at the image in the viewfinder, the eye is not focused close and hence the line is actually not visible. Now that I noticed it 1 time it's stuck in the sub-conscious :)
Never mind... at least I'm glad my LX-3 doesn't have this issue :)

Hi guys,

Newbie needs advises from senior and D90 user ?

I’m interested in shooting bird action.
What are the better settings for bird action?
I currently set in manual mode (result not sharp)
cause I do not know what to do with the dynamic sport setting .
I did try using auto mode, result failed.
I knew that practice is importance and I‘ll keep going practice, practice & practice.

All comments or advises are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for time.

For birding i'll assume u are using focal lengths of 200mm and above, correct? If u follow the general rule of thumb of at least 1/(focal length) shutter speed to reduce handshake blur, u should have relatively sharp pics. The longer the focal length the more pronounced will be even the slightest motion.
Of cors this is subjective. If u want to show motion, pan and use a slower shutter speed (this technique takes practice to perfect). If u want to freeze motion, use a faster shutter speed.

Hi Pasay,

Thanks for reply.
Currently I’m using 70~200mm VRII. (Not really for birding shot)
Plan to get a TC in a short time.
Need more training and practice and to know the equipment well before go for the above 200mm telephoto lens.

Thank you.

Hi Fat Owl, may I ask how's the balance for D90 with 70-200mm. Is it heavy? Was wondering what is the slowest shutter speed this lens an handle with VR. Thanks!

Hi, for taking vids with D90, timeframe is not very long. i've think i've read it somewhere its due to the camera's limitation or is it due to a lower class memory card being used? cant remember, need to confirm with you guys.

Thanks

Have held that combo before, and it's pretty front-heavy, though not unbearable.
If using something to stabilize the setup (eg. monopod), probably 1/80s is achievable.

Bear in mind D90 is APS-C camera, so using 200mm gives equivalent FOV as 300mm on an FX camera.

it shld be equivalent to FOV of 300mm on FX not 350mm :p

I think it's to prevent overheating of the sensor :)

No problem, unless u mind the price, size and weight.

Hi lrvine,

I’m Newbie in photography. Maybe the senior can provide better answer?
Anyways, I will answer your question base on what I personal feel.

- Balance for D90 with 70-200mm. Is it heavy?
Yes, as what Zerocoo say: it's pretty front-heavy. (Lens weight is 1.5 kg)
I believe we still can handle it with hand held continually for less than an hrs.

- What is the slowest shutter speed this lens can handle with VR?
Sorry I not sure. So far I did use 1/8 sec for Owl shot and 1/1600 sec for Pelican shot in JBP.(without tripods)
As I mention early… I’m Newbie in photography. Might give the wrong info?
I not sure how to post the img.
Thank you.

Without Grip, the combo is very front heavy, considering that that 70-200mmVRII is approx. 1.5kg. To balance the set, one would consider adding MB-D80... if you add two EN-EL3E to it, the whole combo could run up past 3kg perhaps (haven't really measured). I've used 1/30s with VR (with the grips and all), haven't gone any lower than that so far. It'd probably depend a lot on personal experiences, etc...

I'm not sure about the front heavy part as I use my Sigma 150-500mm with D90 handheld all the time, and handling it it's ok leh.
