if in M mode, setting EV+1 doesn't do anything aside from moving the meter reading.

if in P,A, S modes, adjusting the EV value will result in one of the parameters changing to compensate. For me, since I don't use Auto-ISO, only shutter speed or aperture will change.

I doubt it, but cannot say with certainty leh... never seriously thought about it

Nope, we can't. The base ISO is the lowest sensitivity that a sensor provides, tempering the exposure affects the end result but not the ISO itself.

And try shooting a scene with +1 EV and compare it with Lo1.0... see got similarities or not...

I doubt it. By setting +1 EV shooting with ISO 200, it will increase the exposure in all parts (shadow, highlight) of the scene, this is different from shooting with LO 1, as the dynamic range of two ISO are are different.

Shoot...my bad... the page I'm reading is at 74, ISO sensitivity... Thinking it was about EV button settings... sorry!

But on a side note... isn't setting +1 EV on the EV button the same as setting L1.0 in the menu? On page 74, second paragraph, it says "For special situations, ISO sensitivity can be lowered below ISO200 by about....blah blah blah... or 1.0EV (L 1.0, equivalent to ISO 100) blah blah blah...

Bro setting EV compensation only changes settings in the exposure triangle: Aperture, Shutter speed, ISO.

So if in A mode, it will most probably affect your shutter speed. In S mode, it will most probably change your aperture F-stop.

Only when the shutter speed is already at fastest max (at A mode), and aperture at smallest (at S mode) will it lower the ISO. It must be some really bright scene for you to hit that level of brightness.

Thanks peeps! Anyway, I was just trying to mess around and happened to read up on the Exposure compensation chapter and got piqued by the co-relation of the EVs to the ISO levels as stated by the manual...

I'll take it that manipulating the EV button would not bring us the ISO equivalent of 100...

It might, if you are in P mode or on auto ISO. Not sure... but must try or read some technical doc. But very rarely will you get into that situation.

I was actually planning to buy a DSLR before enlistment but would it benefit to wait until I ORD before buying? also, I took the liberty to bring my memory card down to the nikon showroom to try the d90 and d7000. used the 18-105 with both cameras. the colours of the images from the d7k appealed to me when I was taking the shots but upon bringing it back home for analysis, I realized quite a number of my images are soft or blurred. is it my fault or is that a known issue of the d7k? anyone knows? I was actually deciding between the d90 and d7k. the d90 is awesome. sharp images but the colours of the d7k do appeal to me slightly more.

what you are recording onto your memory card are JPG files, which have been captured by the camera's sensor, then processed by the internal hard/software to produce the JPG file. The processing can be tweaked with numerous settings. So don't be too quick to judge the 2 cameras based on picking them up and just shooting like you did.

Since you are enlisting, I would suggest you to wait. Unless you think that you'll still have time to shoot, might as well wait and not let the camera become a white elephant at home

1. how long before you will be enlisted? You won't be having much time to do anything else after you are enlisted. You camera may probably be sitting in your home doing nothing for 3 months to 2 years depending on your vocation and Nikon camera usually upgrade their range in about 2+years and quite a number of the model are due.

2. the colour difference can be due to better hardware and software in the latest camera....and it can also be due to the settings (selected by user) in the camera. I would suggest reading reputed reviews of these camera.

3. it may be due to machine fault, hand shake, non-VR lens or dirty optics.
I am guessing that it most likely be hand shake. Depending on shutterspeed and zoom, most likely the D7K settings is beyond what you can handhold your shots.

As some have said.
Would suggest nt get the dslr for now. It will be tired during bmt period n trust me most of the time u will be spending at either beach rd or out with frds or family.

But if u r going to be clerk would say u shld be ok.

For the d7k did u reset both to their default? Some user will like to tweak here n there etc making it unjust for either.

Do another test if u want. During the d7k launch some of us r there n we witness the d7k in action n compare in pixel. It is quite gd.

Most of the camera armor type coverings I see are for camera only and not for battery grip.

i believe you can get it @ simlim, the shop near the ATM. can't remember the shop name, but there is a big canon name, but don't get decieve, they sell nikon.

I remember encountering this 'problem' as well whilst using Liveview. I pressed the 'info' button and wasn't able to adjust the settings I wanted. Slipped my mind to figure this out...

Gotta question, guys... regarding commander mode for flash... if you set the built-in flash to disable, it will still fire albeit being a very weak light right? I thought there shouldn't be any light coming out from the built-in, only the remote flash...

For the record, mine still fires even when disabled... Of course not very strong...

Not very familiar with how built-in flash work when in commander mode.

yes, the built-in will fire. I believe that the only difference is that the built-in flash fires a split second earlier, so as not to be included in the exposure.
I have tried it out in a dark room. No light captured.
