ZCA is right. from our beloved manual: "The built-in flash must be raised so that it can emit monitor pre-flashes."

Yeah... I didn't know exactly what that means... I know it must be raised.. the latter portion a bit confusing.... I ended up getting "blinded" a few times trying to see why the flash still worked... Seeing stars now...

Normally, when I was outside using off-body flash ... didn't bother to notice the pre-flashes... Today, when I was practicing product shoots... I just noticed it...

Anybody using the 3D tracking?

A friend said all cameras have the ability to focus at more than one point at the same time. Is that true? I tried using the 3D tracking mode, but I don't find that it's focusing at different points at the same time. He even said I could focus a person's head, body and legs at any one time so that the person is all clear and sharp. Am I missing anything? So far, I have always been using single-point focus.

I don't think that's how 3D tracking works... I believe it can track and an object/person across the allocated points in your VF.... that's all... (correct me if I'm wrong, those more experienced that me).

it's true that you can focus on more than one point at the same time, provided your focus points are focusing on the same focus plane. but that's not how 3d tracking works. kriegs is right, basically it tracks your subject and choose a new focus point if the composition has changed after the camera has focused. it's usually used for moving subjects, unlike single point where it's best for static subjects.

hope this helps

nope..dats not how 3D tracking works~ in this case, u will find ur subject moving around the 11AF points in ur VF..provided if your subject is moving and ur hands are steady..

might wanna go thru this for a clearer grasp...

Try Oriental Photos at SLS top floor. There are other places (online, can't remember which). But at OP, you can get them to install for you.

It's hard (glass with a certain thickness), and sticks the surface of the LCD screen.

your D90 should come with the plastic LCD protector for the big one at the back. i think film protector for the display on top is useless.

Hi hi,

Can you tell me how to focus on more than one point at the same time ie. which mode to use and how to move the focus-point so that it focuses on three areas like a man's head, body and leg? The manual only shows single-point focus right?

The only time I've seen more than 1 focus point light up is during Auto mode. But having multiple points light up doesn't mean all will be in focus, especially if they are different distances from your camera.
Maybe can Google "focus plane".

Hai.... see you all reply to him, really don't know what to say.... To use manual with multiple points, the steps as below.

1: go to custom setting menu.
2: go to autofocus
3: go to AF-area mode
4: use Auto-area
5: try shooting mutliple items

That plastic one is not really a LCD protector, it is more meant to be used when storing the cam. But we all chuck it somewhere and only dig it out when selling the cam. Why? because dirt and sand can get into between that piece of plastic and your LCD, and when there is movement it may cause that sand or dirt to actually scratch your LCD, and the plastic cover at the same time.

And on top of that, it is not very clear. ;)

I guess because most of us don't use AF-area. and some of us has moved on to bigger and better "things". ;)

This is my first time using Auto area as well. Hmm ... no control over the focus point leh. I thought could select own focus points.

hmm ... why cannot reply to me huh?

I love clubsnap. It gives me insights on how men treat men!

No la, some of us, especially me, have forgotten how to set AF-area mode in D90. Our current cameras just have a level that we switch.
