can't say without knowing the situations and subjects you intend to shoot, and most importantly your budget.
Anyway this is not really the appropriate thread to ask for lens recommendations.

70-200mm f2.8 would be best, but it cost 2times more then the 55-300mm. :)
personally will choose the 70-200mm f2.8 over a 55-300mm if money isn't the issue.
but then again, it depends on what you wanna shoot.

You sure it only costs twice as much? ;) Where har?

Anyway I would personally choose to leave this lens at home if I was going on holiday. Imagine needing such a big bag just to fit in this "little bamboo cannon".
55-300VR is much more portable.
So really it depends on intended usage.

you have to consider size, weight, reach, zoom range, dof, fov and aperture of the lens and whether it suit your needs.

D90 is still alive!!!
hehehe

Thanks guys..!!! Well i am enjoying my D90, its more to taking pictures outdoor and travelling... And budget n size wise i guess will have to go for 55-300....

Anybody has a 50mm 1.4D on your D90?

I just got one but I'm really disappointed. It's not sharp at 1.4, not even 1.8 or 2.2. It's only sharp at 3.5 and I guess onward from there. But I bought it for the 1.4! I've used a 50mm 1.8 before and it was sharper than 1.4. It's ridiculous pricing at such a price when a 1.8 is much cheaper.

I bought it from a mass seller so there's no chance of me exchanging for another copy. The main damper is: I bought it intending to use for CNY and my friends' babies and it is not working as well as I'd hoped.

Darn 50mm 1.4D!

:(

seems like this is an issue with the lens itself.

You probably might want to check around with other 50 f1.4D users to concur.

Hey thanks there!

I was wondering if it's because D90 is a DX and 50mm 1.4d is an FX lens and thus the incompatibility which results in the less-than-effective use of lens, so I was hoping to find someone else who has a D90 and also having this problem.

If it's really the lens itself, then Nikon should scrap it. How can still sell - and at a few times more than its better counterpart? It makes me feel like a fool paying more for inferior quality.

please get the word 'incompatible' out of your mind. It's not applicable in this case.
D90's DX-size sensor simply captures the central part of the image circle which the lens (50/1.4) projects.

If it's due to inaccurate focusing, such an issue should be correctable by the agent (NSC).
Maybe do a focus test on a focus chart (can print off the web) and check for yourself.

No problem with my 50mm 1.4d on my d90. Post some photos or do a focus chart test as wat zero said.

Foremost, u need to know that 50mm on d90 is actualy 75mm and at 1.4 you and to stand quite far away to get the focus point tack sharp! Its all fov, dof blah blah basic. So if u r doing those correctly go NSC for a check:angel:

Thread is reaching 1000 posts.
Better to start a new one and try to keep it clean.
