Thanks smiles that was what i have in mind... haha and thanks smiles and astra on the advise on the batt grip :D going on my 2 months euro trip :D haha so kinda of budget constrain need to plan the cash man :D the 11-16 is gonna set me back by quite a fair bit. but any idea where i can get a good deal on lens ?? the place u all regular to ?
if you don't:
1) need so much battery juice
2) shoot a lot in portrait orientation
3) like the extra weight

then the batt grip is not necessary. I don't have one... :)
I think a UWA will add much more to your photography than a batt grip! :)
The last thing you want to carry on a holiday is a batt grip, in my humble opinion.

Bat grip will only be necessary if you need to balance the D90 attached with a heavy long zoom... :bsmilie:

Hi all.. intending to get a new SD card for my D90.. which card are you guys using over here?
any optimum choices? iirc, even one gets the best SD card it will still be bottlenecked by the
camera speed right? :)

I'm using Kingston 8 gig class 4, so far never failed me. Although the buffer might be choked at high-speed shoots (if you constantly holds it down for a long period of time)... otherwise, it should suffice all kinds of shoots except high-speeds. Do you plan to shoot continuously? If not, any SDHC works fine I think.

Scandisk is more stable and the buffer is faster but you won't be able to see the card's performance unless you are shooting multiple shot which is like more than 8 or more than just get any card will do.

The rule of thumb here is to make sure your SD card usage is not more than 60% of its capacity. This is because the more pictures or files you have in your SD card, the slower it will load when it preview and also it takes a longer time for it to read and write into the card. It applies to any storage devices. Hope this clears your question regards SD cards. ^^

Hi all,

Thinking of getting a 50mm for my D90. Considering the nikkor 50mm f/1.8d. Need to ask some questions:
1. I saw on the nikon website that the nikkor 50mm f/1.8d is placed under the FX format section. The D90 is DX format, so will the lens still fit/work?

2. Can anyone give me a sensing on what kind of price I should be looking at? I am purchasing brand new.

Thank you in advance. :)

D90 here...
wanna know more about studio equipments too and how to use with D90

All FX lenses are able to work on DX. But DX lenses cannot work on FX. Simple as that.

thanks skylover and kriegs for the input.. :) besides providing more fps at one go, i would also like thecardto be able to transfer file faster to my computer.. currently it is a bit too slow for my liking.. will take note of kingston and sandisk.. anyway, how does sandisk categorize their sd card from the slower to those faster ones?

Thank you :)

DX still can be used on FX lah!... Just that there will be serious vignetting issues... but FX bodies should be able to step down their sensor to utilitise the DX lens (low MP will be used). So, it is not "CANNOT" but more like "pointless" since you'll sacrifice MPs to avoid Vignetting issues... The power of F mounts, you decided what you want to do with the lenses... ;) Hence it is a recommendation that you should get FX lenses for FX bodies to fully unleash the former's potentials...with a DX lens, you'll get nice black solid circular border surrounding the image, useless of not, depends on how you view it... lolz

You are wrong. As kriegs has said below, it works just fine.
In fact the FX cameras by default go into DX mode when you mount a DX lens. And everything works. So how can you say it doesn't work?

Thanks Skylove, trying to adapt to the new lens. too used to zoom lens already haha

Thanx for the info! Anyone has any idea how much a nikkor 50mm f/1.8d cost? Was quoted $200 but I remember seeing somewhere in the forum that it is about $100++. Can anyone verify this?

sorry 炸鱼, I was instructed to try and keep discussion of pricing out of this thread.
but just to answer your question quickly, $200 is quite overpriced. High 100s la...
