hi guys,

im a newbie here..im planning to purchase a D90 kit this week. i was checking some shops for the past few days hoping to get a low price D90 kit. the lowest price i gathered was $1,050 at simlim square. included in the kit are: kit lense 18-105mm, 8gb memory card, tripod and camera case..my worries are: 1) the price is very cheap compared to the kit their selling at shops like harvey norman, courts, some shops at funan which will cost me $1345-$1,688..it seems odd to me..what is the normal price for D90 nowadays? 2)my friend told me that this shops in simlim squares that sells D90 kit in a very low price could have change some of the freebies.. instead of selling the brandnew one, theyll replace it with the second hand ones..im very worried that i might get into trouble by choosing to buy at a low price than buying at reputable shops like harvey norman and courts where the kit is a bit expensive..

i hope someone can give me a good advice before doing something that i might regret..thank you much..:D

Caveat emptor as always, also sometimes they did not include GST (newbies always get fooled by this ruse)... So when you've agreed on the price and decides to go the cashier to pay, they will start adding all the GSTs and that's where you'll be stuck whether to proceed or not... beware... and approach with caution if you intend to go ahead with it...

Hence when you ask and check, ALWAYS remember to ask if GST is included. PLUS, gray product or local warranty version (the former, you'll have to pay if any parts need servicing or may not even get serviced at all)...

agree.... even if 2nd hand also quite attractive price.

Things to make sure if price seems too good to be true:
1) new or 2nd hand?
2) what lens is included? Nikon? 3rd party?
3) all accessories (battery, charger, etc) included?
4) warranty?
5) GST?
6) purchase (eg. VITACON converter) with purchase?
7) etc etc etc...

I think another thing to check is, if the serial numbers on the body and lens matches the serial numbers on the warranty card.

HN and other electrical mega stores will only sell at the RRP, which can be a lot of difference from the prices quoted by stores like CP, TK, OP all those. Usually the freebies are standardized. But even, if they give more freebies, you will find them useless after a while. Like for me, the freebie tripod is not stable enough to hold my camera with kit lens steady for landscapes. So, needless to say, heavier set-ups will be dangerous on the freebie tripod.

Even if they give you more memory cards, these are definitely lower quality than the ones that you have to buy. I don't think they will give out Hi-Speed memory cards so freely.:)

Hi guys,

How do I check if a particular Nikkor Lens will fit my D90?
I am looking to buy a 2nd hand Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D but not sure if it can fit.
Is there any table or document to tell us what can or cannot fit? Thank you. :)

50mm f1.8D can fit. I have it. All Nikkor lenses will fit as they use a common mount. The only issue is if your camera is compatible with the lens. Like for D3000 and D5000, as the body doesn't have the AF screw, they would not be able to AF on AFD lenses. D90 can.

For compatibility, the user manual has a table stating the compatibility of the various lenses. Older lenses like the Ai or AiS lenses, for example, will not have metering on the D90.

Yup! So far all of Nikon's current lenses can fit on any of the bodies, it's just the case of whether it can be:

1) Screw turned (no screw on D3000, D5000, not sure about D3100 but I'd assume no as well).

2) Metered... D90 can't use any of the older manual AiS lenses for metering... still can mount, but you have to agar agar like siao to get the correct exposure...

Thank you! There's really a wide range of lenses available.... read and read until I blur... haha... still trying to explore every part of this forum to see where all the answers to my questions are... :)

Hi everyone :) i would like to ask , any 1 here using 16-85mm or 17-55mm F2.8 lens? if have how u think of this 2 lens?

currently im using D90, 18-105 & sb600

Most D90 owners tend to buy with the kit lens, then the first lens purchase would be:
1) add in the 55-200 to pair with the kit lens
2) add the 50/1.8 to try out photography with thin DOF (since lots of newbies want the "bokeh effect")
3) replace the kit lens with either 17-50/2.8 or 18-200VR

I would say option #2 seems to be the most popular.

Well, if you want 11-16, what are you waiting for?
battery grip adds weight to the camera body (besides the more battery juice), which can help with balancing the weight when you mount a heavy lens.

hahah what am i waiting for? waiting for bank acc to fill up bef getting 11-16 lor..
brand new abt $940, 2nd hand abt $800.. still alot of moolah..
