It could be a small electronic component that's buggy, causing the power circuit to have intermittent supply. really hard to say. Just guessing at this stage. I'm fairly familiar with electronics, but not DSLR electronics :)

i had this problem recently.. but its not because the battery or my camera. it is because of the desktop charger that is causing the problem. Before i switch on, I already put the battery in.. some how it could charge for a while but it ended quite quickly.. I had to put in the battery after i switch one about 3-4 secs after its switch on then it will function properly..

not sure about the above mentioned problem..

Hmmmm.... I thought we're supposed to plug in the charger and power up first before putting in the batt? (I think it's written in the instructions.. can't recall exactly).. That's what I always do...

i'm not sure.. i never read though.. it happens quite recently when i was shooting half way when the battery indicates low batt. luckily i still haf backup battery or else i'm like a sitting duck..

Hey guys wanna seek your expert advise.

I will be getting a wide angle lens and need some recommendation :D

Currently i own a D90 with kit lens 18-105mm, will be purchasing a 50mm 1.8f soon.

My purpose for acquiring the portrait and the wide angle lens so for my backpacking trip :D

Hope u guys and gals can help me out :D i read alot about Tokina lens the 11-16mm 2.8ƒ

Thanks a million

how many lenses are you intending to carry on this backpacking trip?

11-16
50/1.8
?
?
?

what do you wish to know about the 11-16? It's really good  anything more?

I will be bring the 18-105, the 50mm and the 11-16 (if i getting tat)

Hahaha as in besides being good and stuff. Is there any draw backs or minus points of the lens from your experience using the lens ??

I personally don't have the lens, though with all the poisoning going on, I am fairly familiar with it :)

this is just my opinion:
PROS
1) sharp
2) built like a tank
3) f/2.8 allows lots of light in. Might be beneficial in low-light environment

CONS
1) limited range 11-16 only. I prefer up till 24mm, so it can be my "all-in-one" lens
2) weighs like a tank

sounds like a good combo.
But for backpacking trip, carrying DSLR sounds like too much weight/size leh... don't forget you need charger, etc.

Thanks ZerocoolAstra, its really enticing to see the photos my friends are taking with wide angle lens. really makes me drool haha :D thanks for the advise :D

I guess at the end of the day when great photos are taken its all worth the weight and energy :D hahaha

sounds like a good combo.

This is one thing to bear in mind when bringing DSLRs for a trip, much more for a backpacking trip. D90 + Battery grip (If you have and bringing) + UWA + 50mm + kit lens + charger + cleaning kit + Tripod ====== NO JOKE! :)

gd question, im also keen in the 11-16.. currently have the same stuffs as u..

why do we need the battery grip? a spare battery not enough?

Battery grip provides additional battery, as 2 battery packs will be in the grip. It makes taking portrait orientation shots easier as well. :)

Most D90 owners tend to buy with the kit lens, then the first lens purchase would be:
1) add in the 55-200 to pair with the kit lens
2) add the 50/1.8 to try out photography with thin DOF (since lots of newbies want the "bokeh effect")
3) replace the kit lens with either 17-50/2.8 or 18-200VR

I would say option #2 seems to be the most popular.

Well, if you want 11-16, what are you waiting for?
battery grip adds weight to the camera body (besides the more battery juice), which can help with balancing the weight when you mount a heavy lens.

Thanks smiles that was what i have in mind... haha and thanks smiles and astra on the advise on the batt grip :D going on my 2 months euro trip :D haha so kinda of budget constrain need to plan the cash man :D the 11-16 is gonna set me back by quite a fair bit. but any idea where i can get a good deal on lens ?? the place u all regular to ?
