got my D90 some month back, just starting to use it recently. I have a 50mm 1.8 len, when trying to press the DOF button from the camera, it dont show the DOF result. But using my Kit Len 18-105 it ok.
is this nomal
try it with the active d lighting off.
if all your subjects on same plane of focus, then you just need to focus on one, and the rest should be sharp.
such features sometimes give people the wrong impression about focusing, and the downside is sometimes you get questions like "how come the box highlight on 2 people but both are not sharp?"i think he meant that feature on cameras nowadays, face detection, smile detection, etc. it made PnS cameras much easier (and a bit smarter) to use. i had a blast trying out the smile detection on one of the sony displays some time ago. :bsmilie:
hi guys, i just bought my D90 and want to check if you're experiencing the same 'lag' time.
Let's say after taking an exposure, during playback when i try to zoom in the picture, there's a 1 second lag before the camera zooms in the picture. is this normal? my previous camera was faster than this. Is there something wrong with my D90 or is it my memory card?
It's a brand new 8gb memory card without any pictures on it. I shot in raw and the camera has been formatted (did it more than twice and i experience the same lag issues). I thought the camera reads the data fast? appreciate you sharing your own experiences.
thanks for reading!

not much difference. i don't have d-lighting on on mine but still get the lag. thought of it as normal, shooting in RAW+JPEG fine at max resolution. could be the card though, a faster CF card should improve the preview time.
just happen to read the manual, the face detection mode is only work on Live view mode, which means you need to use the LCD screen to shot your photo
yeah... I never really bothered about the fractions of a second. But was surprised to hear that D40 was almost instantaneous.Active D-Lighting setting affects picture preview because the image captured upon exposure has to be additionally processed using the Active D-Lighting programs before it is displayed and recorded onto the external memory card which takes time. This is normal. Less processing means faster captures & displays. But we are talking about fractions of a second![]()

When using AF-area mode and AFS, i tried to focus and recompose but failed. The focusing point (cursor) in the viewfinder simply doesn't
move when arrows key (multi-selector) is depressed.
i suspect there is something wrong with my AF sensor.
what do you guys reckon. I am thinking of sending it to NSC for repair but I bought my DSLR in Sept last year. slightly more than a year now. What should I do.?? Please advise. TIA
