Read a lot and taken a lot of notes on Aperture, Shuttle Speed, ISO etc...

Different place/time need different set of setting to achieve optimal result/photo.

By trial and error??

Is there an easy way to remember these setting??

Or izzt shot more and more, u will soon know what to use liao??

Newbie here.

I think you have the answer liao. Another thing you can do is bring either a depth of field & focal length software or chart along.

I was surprise that one of the gurus from film era, by looking at my set up, can precisely guess the focal length I used!

hmmm. what do you mean by remembering all the settings? What they do or what? :)

Shooting more and reviewing your own pictures play a major part in learning, at least to me. If the quality of the picture cannot even pass my own QC, I'll delete it straight. hehe

Even with the announcement of D7000, i think the current D90 specs and pricing is still attractive.

IMHO

Settings are not meant to be memorized....

You need to understand exposure, so you will know what settings to use in what situations.

agreed. You must first love your own picture first. If you don't even like then other people will sure won't like it. Its very logical.

Ya, tdy when shoting and seems that the 'stops' up n down play parts to the photo. Learning and wish I could learn fast too. ;p

Er. Not to burst your bubble, but there's no shortcut to learning. I know, cause I still very new, n it's a steep learning curve. :)

Well, if D90 is still highly demanded... hard to say... We'll never know coz we are not the businesses... Between this (D90 at 1K) and D7000 (at 1.6K at first release) that's a huge world of difference if you ask me.... It is really as if D7000 is a model grade above D90 (given that the latter is still quite a formidable performer...)

i agree that the d90 is still quite a capable camera, but i'm being majorly poisoned as i read more and more of the d7000 specs .

http://www.nikon.com.sg/compareproductitems.php?p=1391-4ff7c79651,1281-86d7b52026
16MP vs 12MP
native ISO 100-6400 vs ISO 200-3200
6fps vs 4.5fps
VF 100% vs 96%
expeed2 vs expeed

let's face it, if the d7000 comes out at $1.6k and the street price for d90 is still $1.4k (kit), it's hard to justify a new d90 purchase other than you're a real loyalist to this model :D. don't get me wrong, guys, i still love my d90, but i'm in serious need of anti-BBB virus. :bsmilie:

Your price comparison is a bit off... first off... 1.6K D7000 will only come up as a body-only set. Whereas, if you are getting a D90 at $1.4K NOW... man, you're being chopped silly like a carrot! :bsmilie: It is more like 1K for D90 (body alone). $1.4K would most likely include a lens kit.

Edit: hey, did you include "(kit)" during the last edit?? No fair! :bsmilie:

yah, i edited it "kit" coz the i immediately realized kennynah's post mention d90 body only as out-of-stock so i didn't have a valid price point to compare. but i edited it almost an hour ago! where have you been??? :bsmilie:

I managed to unglue myself from the forum for a bit... :bsmilie:

But seriously, without the release of D7000.... do you think D90 has still a fighting chance against the 60D? I still think so.... especially price-wise. Otherwise, you wouldn't have heard the groans before the released of D7000 (which emplified it 100 times more...)

Of course i still think that to date, the d90 is still the best all-around camera from nikon. Not as heavy as the d*** series or d3 series but still delivers delivers excellent results, and for a very affordable price (especially nowadays). But technology goes old fast, and nikon needs to market another camera model to fight for market share. The d90 can hold up on its own against other models specs-wise, even against the newer 60d from canon, but a "newer" model will always command more interest, especially to those starting in dslr. The camera companies know this, which results in more and more camera models each year.

If there is a needs to upgrade, eg. wanna do more cos u think u can do more with upgrade set. Else, why suddenly new D7k coming out and everybody like rushing to buy??

Guess there are 1001 reasons for the purchase. D7k sure can sell cos its from Nikon. hahaa :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Not really, I for one thinks I can really do with a good ISO performance for night landscape shoots - tried to capture moving boat on the river... (done that with D90 at f/8 with 3200 -pwahhhh! So freak'n noisy!) :bsmilie:

Plus, I've held back from purchasing any AF-D/ AF-S 50 f/1.4 f/1.8 lenses... coz wanna really try the AI-S lenses...but alas D90 can't do it...

Lastly, I don't think I'd dare bring my D90 out into the winter or truly wet conditions without weather sealing...

That's just a few of the justifications reasonable enough for an upgrade... ;p Want me to go on? Nevermind.... we keep shooting with our D90 okay? I'm not in the rush to upgrade anyway...

Hi everyone, i need help DESPERATELY.. i'm meeting someone next week to view a 2nd hand D90 from her at $1100 with kit lens, tripod, Nikon cleaning kit, full package.. it's a rarely used set with low SC and she's letting go cos she realised a DSLR is too complicated for her and she's sticking to her compact camera.. sounds like a really good deal right? but i dont know if its still worth buying if the price of a brand new set is gonna drop when the D7000 is available for sale next month.. cos the tripod isnt v impt to me so its like $1100 for 2nd hand (relatively new) D90 VS Brand New D90 @ ____ price after the launch of D7000.. do you all think the price of D90 will drop much?
