No charm from Canon can tempt me away from D90 - I've tested their 450D, 500D, 550D, 50D, btw... But I like Canon's PnS range...weird...

Any one used a 550d before using d90?? What's the exp like for both the cams?? I downgraded my FF to a 550d but cannot get use to it's size... Thinking of getting a d90 instead cos the size is in between a 550d and a FF body...

i'm a d90 user and my company got me a 550d for "company-use" pictures. not for outings and such but for taking pics for references, of samples and other official business. i always miss my d90 during those times i'm using the 550d. d90 feels more solid, and easier to control even when your eye is on the viewfinder (thanks to the front AND rear dials). come to the dark side :devil: we take good care of you

Hi all D90 bros,

Been using my D90 for a year now and loving it.... Have a question though for all those D90 bros, or Nikon users in general....

When I take pics, esp of moving subjects e.g. kids, sports, I have the habit of half-pressing the shutter button repeatedly in burst (3-4 times b4 taking every single pic) to FOCUS on my moving subject (via AF-S mode) in order to get them in focus, especially when using shallow depth of view apertures.

Will this 'habit' of repeatedly pressing the half-shutter focus button at quite burst severely shorten the lifespan of the shutter button? Any bros encountered a damaged shutter button before? Any concerns with this 'habit'?

I know that AF-C is able to track subject (with a single half shutter press) but as D90 only has 11-pts, the tracking ability is not really that good, compared to D300 with 52-pts, hence most of the time, the subject is OOF and I find multiple burst of AF-S half press is much more effective.

3/4+ in the day? you might need a GND. Or if shooting waters and water is not calm, ND. I don't know if I'm wrong here. But I do use ND screw-in ND, and then I hold my GND using my hands. Yes, tiring, but I don't have the holder. haha.

If 3/4+ in the night, I think remove all filters better, unless you need to reduce the reflections, then use a CPL.

Am I correct??

I think you don't have to worry about the shutter button being spoilt in this way. Shutter mechanism has a life span but I think not for the shutter button. I do this at times as well, when my target is on the move.

I am just trying to ensure I have the minimum setup or gear to start with on the landscape. The main reason is that I cant always go out at night or early in the morning to shoot picture.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but at 3-4+ of the day the sky is pretty bright, and it will be unlikely that you can use a lower shutter speed to smoothen water surfaces, so a ND can be used to drag the exposure longer.

If you're taking pics with a very big contrast between the sky and ground, a GND can be used to balance out the exposure between the 2 elements. I was told GND does not work well when taking pictures of cityscapes with buildings, but i cant remember the explanation behind it : X
