I think you should get a reverse adaptor. So you can reverse mount your 50mm. But DoF IIRC not very good. And of couse, you're exposing your front rear element

I wouldn't jump into it.... best do research first and read, think properly... or else it's SSS and BBB routine all over...

The thing is...once you want to try it out, you'd try the cheaper options first, then you BBB... hooked and wanting to improve, you'd want better stuff, etc, etc... Then SSS and then BBB again... Not saying you shouldn't do it, it's probably one of the ways if you're not sure you want to go very deep into it in the longer run... At least you didn't spend so much if you decide to pull out of the genre... As always think carefully.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm still in the midst of deciding. Will do more research and put more thought into deciding which to prioritize first before BBB :bsmilie:

Yup. Tt's why I asked him to consider the reverse adaptor. It's cheaper than a macro lens or a raynox close up.

Good lad, we want to hold on to your interest for the longer run... (The longer you think, the longer you stay in the hobby...:bsmilie: JUST kidding!) Take your time, and arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible - we all learn something new everyday. Just as i've learnt something new from ZCA about 2/3 stop NDs, right?

When you're VERY sure, then it is time to plonk $$ down for things you want... rest assured less SSS/BBB routine to be encountered.

And he thinks that's enough, he will continue using the 50mm and reverse adaptor setup? I think not... he's already looking into 105mm micro... that's way beyond what the reverse adaptor can cure... BBB virus into his blood veins already! :bsmilie:

Haha. Thats because i tried the lens out at NSC! The dragonfly picture i posted in the macro section was taken with my 50mm + an extension tube someone lent me though

Haha. But at least we know that his lust for macro is not done by us! We're innocent this time

Die!!!! Marcus has let you into his (Nikon's) poison glass cabinet?? You are beyond cure, buddy... :bsmilie:

Who is Marcus!??!? But its true that place is POISONOUS!

The guy wearing glasses at the counter in front of the poison cabinet... Either him or it was Luke, both I've spoken to and helpful indeed.

O no! He says he is a macro type of person, and was enthusiastically teaching(poisoning) me with the 105mm!!

Then, that's Marcus... :bsmilie: I don't think I can dissuade you from the 105mm.. how to and got no valid reason to... You're on your own buddy... *bai-bai* :bsmilie:

Btw, if you want to keep your macro solution as SIMPLE as possible... 105mm + R1C1... 2500 bucks give and take 100/200. Can almost no need to look elsewhere already... unless you eager for deeper poisoning...but the two combined should give you a long enough interest... and less strenuous on your arms... lol That's my opinion okay, I'm sure there are other cheaper and better options out there... I'm no macro expert.

Note: go read up on another thread here - pretty useful for your macro research.

Don worry, i will do more research before BBB. Walao i only talk bout 105mm then now u come add in R1C1. from 1.3k now 2.5k!

I'm only saving your time on researching the flash part, bro... :bsmilie:

Would you prefer to spend 1.3k plus this that this that this (+1000 k) and then ended up you really want the R1C1 (ssss the +1000k, then bbbb again?)...

Btw, THAT would be my route if I decided to go into bugs and butts... for starters only. Did some of my research already, and I'm just sharing that info with you... The only thing left would be arms to reposition the flash units so that you can get more creative... Not saying R1C1 is a must, you research on that and then work your way around if you can on alteratives...

any advice guys?

Thx

Any one used a 550d before using d90?? What's the exp like for both the cams?? I downgraded my FF to a 550d but cannot get use to it's size... Thinking of getting a d90 instead cos the size is in between a 550d and a FF body...
Thanks

erm. I was deciding between 550D or D90. I chose the D90 as it feels more solid, feels better to hold and looks better to me. As to the functions, I'm not so sure.

Same here.Tried out the 550D before i bought my D90. Felt that it was too small and light for me. On top of that i liked the convenience of having a front dial for the aperture, and LCD panel at the top of the camera.
