Sorry ah. I got something to ask. Kriegs do you use the shorter center column at all? Is it better to use the tripod bag they give or better to just use the strap to carry the tripod around?

Yup, I've stored my longer column permanently, using the shorter column these days... Pros and Cons to using either...

If you have the longer column, sometimes just in case you need extra height to clear the edge of the bridge or railing - longer column helps.. (of course it will be slightly extended from the base plate, not recommended but still okay - but only if you need that extra height clearance). Shorter column limits the ability to do that in this case.

Short column - is the column you'd use most if you want to do really low angle shots. Long column will not allow you the low angle as it will hit ground before your legs can go any lower...

Me? I'd use the strap, coz my tripod is already 1.2 kg by itself without adding ballhead weight. Without the bag, I can deploy much faster without worrying about where to place the bag...

With the bag, of course you can prevent uncessary banging and scratching of your tripod... but when you deploy, a bit of time will be wasted on thinking of where you should place the bag...

Longer column, added weight... when you reverse fold, a bit of the ball-head mount is still exposed. Shorter column, lesser weight. when reverse fold, ball-head is in between the tripod legs - well protected...

Don't throw away the tripod bag if you're not using... good for travelling overseas. But when you're in homeland...I'd prefer not to use the bag (added weight, slows down deployment)

morning guys...!
wah, so many posts...

ok to clarify the issue with ISO Lo. values on the D90, the main issue is dynamic range, not artifacts...
here, an excerpt from DPreview's assessment of D90:

ISO Sensitivity and Dynamic Range

The D90's sensor has a native sensitivity of ISO 200, with ISO 100 equivalent available by using the Lo 1 setting. The dynamic range of Lo 1 has almost exactly one stop less dynamic range in the highlight regions, which is what you'd expect from what is essentially an ISO 200 image overexposed by a stop.

So if we do use Lo, do we need to compensate by underexposing? :dunno:

Very true. But if I use the short coloumn, the ballhead will stop me from reverse folding. But I guess tt's okay.

That's because of the G20.... The Q3T I have, the two side knobs are spreaded 90 degrees apart, letting itself fit snuggly between the legs, even with the shorter column. Markins Markins Markins...

Nevermind then, use the longer column... and bring the shorter column always (not that big anyway).

Argh! Not so soon! Haha. So I guess I have to keep in normally instead of reverse folded. Today nv go chase sun?

Today I chase sleep.... chat with you guys too late into the night yesterday already... *yawn*... plus this morning a bit of rain...

I wonder if OGL managed to pull any shots...

Keep it in reverse or normal it is up to your preference actually. Normal folding less bulky, width wise, but longer. Reverse folding, slightly bulkier, but shorter... that's all.

Good afternoon guys, I managed to wake up but I past the prime time(when the sky is blue). Took some shots but very uninteresting to me. Actually I think if I have gotten a filter it might help.

Same here... I packed up and went home to sleep by 7.30am. Gave the sky an hour to change but it did not seem likely so might as well catch up on my sleep.

No, i was at Bedok. I think the entire sky more or less was blanketed today. Weather report not so good this coming week either. Still, I might try again tomorrow. I'm ever hopeful beyond all reason...:bsmilie:
