Bro, really poison sia...:devil: Sigma 24/1.8 SWEE...

Ya bro.. it is very swee. Especially the bokeh is very creamy. But remember all sigma's more or less have AF front or back focusing... Not a problem, but on different cam, it will behave differently..

For my copy, I have to set to +20 for micro AF adjust. This is the max setting. But luckily, at that setting, AF is spot on. But I am still going to bring it in to Sigma SC to get it adjusted FOC.

For D90, there is no micro AF adjustment feature, so die die have to bring it in to get it adjusted.

So my advice for Sigma, it is a good lens, but don't buy grey market.

Also this 24mm focal length (35mm FOV), you need to know how to use it to get the effect you want. Not easy to use lor. Moving in close to get the shot, you will be rewarded with very dynamic pictures.

Yes, all the example pics I posted are shot at F1.8.

If you want wider, You have to look at the F1.4 for autofocus lenses.

And for the wide prime it is the 24/1.4 AFS. That lens is cost slightly under $2.9k.

The other F1.4 AF lenses are:

85/1.4D - ~$1.8k
50/1.4G - ~$800
50/1.4D - ~$500
Sigma 50/1.4 - ~$825
Sigma 30/1.4 (DX lens) - ~$720

Sigma 20/1.8 - ~$880
Sigma 24/1.8 - ~$720

You can consider MF lenses, there are some F1.4 ones. Cheaper but some like the 85/1.4 and 35/1.4 Ai/Ais are not cheap. Wide primes are also very hard to to do manual focusing especially on D90 due to small viewfinder. And no metering for D90 also.

But bro, 1.8 to 1.4 is only half to 2/3 stops difference. But for some lenses, 85mm and wide prime in particular, the increase in price is exponential. So you really have to balance it out.

Thanks for the detailed recommendations bro. A list to run through carefully. The one thing is, you can never have enough primes. Any reason why you sold your 35mm f/1.8? Not wide enough?

looks like i miss out a lot recently.. =/

Yeah man. I think his 35mm wasn't wide enough. Haha. Skylover what did you miss recently?

Did you guys go out and shoot anything yesterday or not? I think the evening light was beautiful...but then hor... I'd have melted on DSLR with all the simmering heat...

Bro i was either in the office or driving around. I reach hm, sky pitch black liao. Haha

Few reasons bro...

I find I am not using the 35/1.8 a lot. FOV is 52mm like a normal lens, but I prefer something wider. When you look at wide angle pictures, you get a sense of dynamic movement, this is due to perspective, since the longer the focal length, the more compressed things look. The shorter the focal length, the more exaggerated distances look. So that wider lens will give you more sense of "movement" due to that exaggeration in perspective. Especially when you go in close to your subject. I like this effect wide angle lenses give you.

24mm on APS-C is around a 35mm FOV. This is a good FOV to have. 1) subjects still do not get too distorted (wide end of 'normal'), 2) it is slightly wider than your 50mm FOV.

Another reason is that this 24mm lens is a FF lens, so if I move to FX, I will be able to use this as a true wide angle prime.

Lastly, baby is coming, cannot anyhow anger wife. If I sell a lens, I can easily justify the purchase of another (even though the new one is more than twice the price of the old one).

So far if you ask me now about some feedback on my new 24mm, I can tell you I am very very happy. My shooting style has also evolved with this lens, capturing more dynamic photos, getting closer to my subjects.. I am very very satisfied...

Couple more pics... I really love this lens!

I agree on that. What is important you are happy with the lens you buy.
