change 1 variable at a time.
set the value to the extreme end, take a pic.then change the same variable setting to the other extreme end and take a pic.pls note do not over/under exposed the pic too much, otherwise u won't b able to see any differences.
see what the variable does.

hi maomao82, if u still keen on the D90 u can go mustafa centre. they got sell the kit lens package 1669. the deal is gd comes with 8gb card and a camera bag, better than in Tk foto. yesterday i went there to buy things and then go check out the price also ha

Seriously, I think I will also face the problem of the camera being too complicated for me to use..complete noob.

Any gd suggestion for a newbie to have a quick grapse of the D90? apart fr readin the manual like readin journals, how to explore the camera wifout executing the forbidden "dont".

Dummbies for NIKON D90 ?

The dummies and idiot's guide are all an extension of the manual itself with additional explanation on fundamentals of photography. Will be as a good all in one for newbies for sure but imho contain nothing more than what the manual and internet can offer ;p.

D90 is not such a complicated camera unless your intention is to forever shoot on auto mode ;p . The provided manual was my bible and i read it three times at least. There are also a couple of good guides on the internet.

If you are in it for the long run , i think D90 is a great camera to grow with. However if you just want instant gratifications of better pictures can get a lower end body and pair with a better lens and let the lens do the job. This is just my 2 cts worth could be highly debatable hahaha.

Hi people,

Revisit an earlier discussion in this post.

hahaaha

seems like we are having a nice little discussion going on here.

Thanks for all the useful advise.

This wkend i am going to try to fall in love or at least not to divorce my 18-105mm. Reason is if i can live with it enough...i can get my UWA for Jiuzhaigou!! hahahaah

Wish me luck ppl and tks for all the advise.

As saycheese78 says, buy what you can afford, if you cant, its fun too cos you really need to work out what u need then and you would have travelled a bit further on this journey of photography.

keep shooting and be happy

Didn't manage to fall in love with my 18-105 so decide to divorce it, hope it can find happiness elsewhere hahaha. Decided to get the 16-85mm finally, guess the only way to find out is to take the plunge.......else i will still have time to address the error before my trip ya hahaha ........or i could hope the stock market continue like this

hahaha

cheers,

Hi TS,

I have been using D90 for almost 2 months. Its a great camera and I am using the Tamron 18-200mm lens and the Nikkor Micro 105mm AIS lens, and I can say its great!

Like what others have said in this forum, don't wait too long to get one. Also bear in mind that stocks may not be available based on the current demand.

Once you get it, you won't regret it!

Hope this helps.

Did you use the D90 to take pictures for the insurance claim?

Was looking for a thread like that and found it!
I'm a newbie to DSLR, and I'm looking to purchase a D90..
After reading all the comments, i'll probably get the D90 + 18-105mm, although i still have some queries for the seasoned user here..

1. Between 18-105mm and 18-55/55-200mm, which would be better?
Or just get the 18-55mm and get a third party lens?

2. Is there a difference in quality between the 18-55mm and 18-105mm?
Thanks!

I start up my photography interest with D90 and kit lens AFS 18-105mm VR.

I vote for D90 and kit lens AFS 18-105mm VR package because, what I think is if you buy 18-55mm with another lens you will end up pay more money and if you need to use more that 55mm, you will have to change the lens and end up bring more item out and may miss out the chance that you want to take like the moving subject or birds etc… you know what I’m trying to tell you?

The Kit Lens act as an all-rounder lens and will last you very long, compact enough for outing and overseas trip also!

Quality between the 18-55mm and 18-105mm is:

Nikon AFS 18-55mm VR: without ED glass.

Nikon AFS 18-105mm VR: with ED glass, more distant coverage, and feeling better because you’re holding on to a Bigger Lens;)

After you got extra cash to spend, get some other better quality lens like the F2.8 or Flash is also important for your learning stage.

hi,
new in D90 camp & may i a bit OT here.
in spite of quite decent reviews on kit lens 18-105, why are so many ppl selling out theirs?
i bought mine body only and coupled with tamron 18-270..so got no chance to see how it feels & work.

how much you bought your tamron 18-270?

18-105...
my personal experience...
i took some test shoots at 105mm and i feel the pic quality not up to par.
16-85 has my vote as the best walk-around len currently.

also, the plastic mount of the 18-105 is something which bothers me as there are many threads of it breaking...
