D810 - OFFICIAL THREAD

is it wise to buy this camera as my first ever dslr and use it for minimum 5 years? amateur photographer buying pro dslr to become pro photographer. can or not? the man is as good as the camera.. lolz

I heard 36MP (36.3 if you're precise), can be unforgiving and can amplify any error in technique pretty badly.

But at the end of the day, as long as you're happy, that's fine!

Just my humble $0.02 :)

You can do that with an iPhone.... if you have a good eye, dedication, great business skills, marketing & branding excellence and good post processing skills.

Buying a semi-pro / pro camera WILL NOT, EVER make you a pro.....

seen the specs and compared them with the D800E.

don't see any need at all to upgrade as I mainly use it in a controlled lighting environment or for landscape.

main feature that I like is the ability to group AF.

other than this option, don't see any need at all (unless you're into videography, you might want to).

Get a D610 or Canon 6D.
Or used Canon MK II/III but maybe check the condition and shutter count.

I'll say get comfortable with what 24MP on FX can deliver, then you can decide whether the move is worth it.

I know some consider the D610 to be "not so pro" and a strange entry in the FX lineup, but I disagree. D4x for those who need 10+ FPS. D800x for those who demand the highest resolution. D610 for those who don't need 10+ FPS and 3 images to cost more than 100MB in a memory card, and still use the 1/focal length rule for shutter speed comfortably.

Don't forget to budget good lens $$$

OIC...your info is from google...why not ask a poll here how many users actually encounter 50% of those you listed? :)

1. 4 fps not enough for those who need 5fps when doing Bracketing
I never try 5 frame bracketing yet. Will try to confirm. But so far 3 frame bracketing no issue.

2. mirror vibration
not sure which particular scenario you referring to...but there is a Mirror Up function.

3. no unlimited continuous shooting which limit at 100-frame limit for us who shoot star trail
no leh...120 above also can...i think you are referring to using the menu to shoot time lapse...not sure if D810 solve this...but if u use a remote trigger...no such issue

4. moire which D810 claim to reduce it but yet to confirm
this one subjective....D800e supposed to encounter more..but there are certain scenario to encounter this..maybe i heng...i no kenna those scenario...this one i cannot confirm.

5. Poor LCD for Live view which is grainy and not very helpful for manual fine focusing while opening up to maximum aperture helps, but only on lenses that don't exhibit focus shift as a function of aperture
Poor LCD yes...but is it a flaw? more of lower resolution compared to 5DM3 LCD...

6. handling issue like mode button and record button is too close which result in you pressing the record button too often
metering mode selector switch which is together with the AE-L/AF-L and AF-ON controls is a bad move.

Not sure why that is a bad move...never used other DSLR before...but u won't accidentally turn it though...one is press..one is turn..

anyway...i am not a Nikon or Canon fanboi....i just feel those issues i face are not flaws..but more of specs different...eg...low fps...i cannot afford D4/s....so cannot say is flaw...more of budget constraint.
the first batch AF was really a flaw

That why I say "but all in all if your requirement does not need all these or you can make do with it, like I say D800/E is not much diff from D810."

Anyway let move on as there is nothing gain by all these debate. All those who want to get D810 will do so no matter what others say, do update us once you start pre-ordered and let us know the street price.

Get a D610 or Canon 6D.

I know some consider the D610 to be "not so pro" and a strange entry in the FX lineup, but I disagree....

Agree..I know Pros using D600 with satisfied repeat clients, making more than enough to at least purchase D800Es every mth or D4s..

Clients dnt question wht cam they use..:)

"Pro" or not does it make a different? Unless your rice bowl is photography else hobbyist like us don't really bother, photo you shot, you like it, you happy, you keep it as memories can already. Pro or no pro does not make any different or make any sense or any impact to anyone at all.

Just get a camera and lens that meet your expectation and you able to achieve what the equipment could allow you to shot the kind of photo you want is more impt then anything.

Heh this threads about the D810.... :D

Newbie question - I have the D600, liveview preview is always at the aperture i last shot at, and i have to switch off/on liveview after i change aperture. (I don't use liveview, but i tether to my PC. First shot, its at f/1.8 i can do MF, etc.. then i set to shoot at f/8, after the shot the lens aperture is stuck at f/8 which makes it harder to MF/darker..)

Does the D810 have the same issue ?

Anyone has any info on when the camera wld hit the store shelves?
Thanks.

Thanks.

Later this month..... I u not placed orders last week or earlier you can expect it in 2 months.... normal thing.

I'll always wait 6 months till ISSUES are found, and reading all the complaints people give, half of which are cause they can't handle such high res camera, or don't have the lenses to suit.... but thats still the camera fault ack to the user... hahahaha. ;)

Thanks bro... Will check it out maybe later this month/early Aug..Hopefully not selling like hotcakes and need be on order and with National Day near the corner, maybe some form of promotion :-)

Agree that the 'bugs' may at times be user fault thought some may exist but reckon the chaps in Nikon wld have tested it umpteen times before launch...

You EXPECT promos on a new camera.... not likely AT ALL..... Give the promo a year perhaps!

How I wish D810 is a FX mirrorless cam...
