The D800/E's LCD display has a greenish tint. That's why I use the histograms instead. If you shoot in raw often, this should be a minor issue since WB is correctable in post.

I didn't notice any issues with WB on mine but then again, I never rely on the LCD to gauge WB, exposure, colours, etc. I calibrate WB with an ExpoDisc for indoor work and for outdoor, I just stick to cloudy WB. Just some minor tweaking in editing and its usually there.

For me, the LCD is jus to gif a quick view of how the captured scene is like.
If it can be spot on accurate, gd.
Otherwise, its ok since the real work begin during post processing.

Hi guys, thanks for the input. I wouldn't want to shoot too many raw files on the cam due to processing time & storage but colors straight out of it was not ideal so far. Seems to underexposed a stop or half on AP as well. I'm ok with the LCD not being too accurate but even on my screen, not calibrated but I compared files between this & friend's work & my D700/7000 the pics lack vibrancy etc. Quite disappointed but could be some setting issues as I don't have the time to set it up nicely yet. Will try studio work on one of these days to see how they turn out.

Your observation of the poor colour of your camera is quite interesting. I'm keen to buy the D800E and had some reservations about its quality (or rather the lack of it). First it has been the left focus issue then the green hue of its LCD. Now it seems the problem has carried over to the uploaded files.
I hope the 800E users here will please help to clarify or confirm these "defects". Has the left focus issue been addressed in the latest batches? Please help if you know. Thank you.

Kind of regret for me. Not about the colours yet but the file sizes, they're useful but not necessary. I used to shoot raws with the D700 & they're more than enough except certain shoots where higher details will be pleasing. Am upgrading my PC anytime now to handle the new file sizes but figured if I take it overseas then on-site editing will be hampered till better laptops come up.
Anyway, the price has come down a lot from initial days so it's about time.

I don't have a D800E, but a D800 bought in late Nov. Don't seem to have any left AF issues but I did not do any specific tests. My photos from the 8 days trip last month were all pretty much spot on. I don't really bother about the LCD issue since PP is a almost a must these days, of course I will love to have a perfect camera from the start.

One thing I NEVER understand - I see so many of D800/E owners complaining about the plain computing power required to handle the files. What better laptop is needed?
My laptop:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (2nd Gen quad-core)

64 bit Windows 7 and 8
Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
1664 MB Total available graphics memory

There was no lag in importing the D800E files into Lightroom. No lag in processing them. I run Photoshop, Lightroom and some other imaging programs concurrently, there's no hang, no lag whatsoever. Mine is a cheap deal bought 1+ year ago, about $1k only.
So.. what kind of specs do you guys really need? :dunno:
All new cameras go through some defect/bug period at launch. It is not a lack of QC.
New batches of D800e/D800/D4 no longer suffers from the left AF point issue. And folks who brought it in to the NSC for service has gotten it fixed via a software calibration.
Green tint has been fixed too.
But if you are so adverse to having problems on a camera, maybe you should stick to what you have now.
Most people are running i3 or i5 with 4GB ram with 1GB video ram.
From what I read your posts.. it sounds more like user error... It is not the LCD.. it is probably the picture styles settings your friend's D700/7000 and his work.
If you don't spend the time to do a once over to set up your cam to the way you want it, why even bother raising an issue here now?

Please ask yourself if at this point in time you intend to buy a camera but had been put off by its quality (poor) concerns would you be keen to know if they were resolved before making that move? It is also surprising that a moderator be so quick to jump to a conclusion to even suggest "maybe you should stick to what you have now" without the slightest of indulgence. Lastly, it is regrettable that noobs in photography should encounter snobs in Clubsnap!

There is nothing wrong to ask you to stick to what you have now. Please do not be overly sensitive. The general advice out there for people who want to avoid teething issues is not to buy cameras the first 6 to 8 months it is released. Which is exactly why you are asking if the problems are resolved. It is not being snobby. More like you fail to understand what I am trying to say and you jumping to conclusions on my words.
And yes, I bought one of the new nikons and I have no problems. But then again, Nikon never officially acknowledge the left AF point issue nor the green tint issue. so what I said about them being fixed is not official as well. So if you are still worried you should wait it out a little more (stick to what you have now).
And there are NO poor quality concerns. Every new cam out there has issues early in the launch. Just go read up on any brand out there be it Canon, Nikon or Sony. There are always issues with new launches. But they will be fixed in due course.

Well said by the moderator. In my opinion, daredevil123 had offered advice as a fellow CSer and not in his capacity as a moderator. It's like a policeman visiting a hawker to buy food and not investigating a case as he needs to eat too.

I fully understood your reply (ref:347) and was fully aware that those "defects" were fixed at NSC since the 800/E were launched in early 2012. I was only asking, "Has the left focus issue been addressed in the latest batches?" and, by your answers thus far, do you think it has been answered? Even if you know that I may be a noob surely a more helpful reply would have been a 'yes' or 'no', and in your case, "But they will be fixed in due course". Until now I still have no direct answer but I sincerely thank you for your replies.
I like to clarify that I am not the "over sensitive" sort and that I do not indulge in fawning comments. If the Cser's comments are good I offer thanks and compliments. If the comments are insensitive I would say so. Let us put this matter to rest, and giving you the benefit of any doubt, I say sorry had my replies been harsh.
