D800 User Thread II

Nice pic. I m surprised it worked so well w the zoom lens.

just bought a 800E and would like to know whether I should get a 32gb CF card or get 2 16gb CF cards so as if one card is spoiled still can have another. Like the saying goes not to put all the eggs into one basket.
Thanks and have a great day.

Your D800E "eggs" are quite big, get 2x 32GB card then slowly upgrade to another 2x 64GB in the near future.
*depends on how much photos you want to store in a photoshoot without transferring your photos to your hdds.

sorry I don't get you why not transfer them to hdds and free the card for the next shoot?

Do you have the luxury of having laptop & hdds during your shoot.
And do you shoot mostly local or overseas?
All these backing up of photo methods different with people style.
Do you shoot alot of photos and filled up your card then transfer?
If you can have ready access to your laptop and hdds, then you can buy smaller CF cards.

Think it also depends on what format and quality u shoot with(i.e. Raw + Jpeg, only Raw or only Jpeg) and whether raw compressed/uncompressed, 12/14 bit, jpeg fine/normal/low etc.

If shooting Raw + Jpeg, 32GB will be a better choice in my opinion.

Im getting my first FX camera
My thoughts are between DF and D800.
Just asking ... If I take pictures using the smallest or medium size, will the quality of that photo decrees ?
How is the ISO ? ... I've read few websites and can see even at ISO 3200 or 6400, it still acceptable.
What you guys think ? ... thanks

I have shot the D800 with ISO6400 and I find it useable to my tolerance and that comes with lit bit of noise PP. Not sure about the picture quality of small or medium size as I always shoot in raw.

The answer to your question is all subjective..no one can answer..

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my D800 when recording video. A hot pixel appears on the same location each time I set the iso higher than 640. It isn't there on iso 500 and lower. I'm quite sure it's a hot pixel, not dead pixel, as the spot is red,and tend to be more visible when the sensor is hot.

I did send to nikon for checking quite some time ago, they said they couldn't spot the hot pixel. It was disappear for some time after that though.

It starts to appear again lately. I'm just wondering whether this happens to all D800 or just my faulty set?? Really annoying to edit the videos everytime because of this..

Hi. Thinking of upgradding from a D90 to a D800 for my upcoming trip to Korea this April. Just wondering with the new D4s release, will we expect a price drop in the new few weeks?
