Very impressed with D800's high iso performance.

Yes, impressive. And the 85 is a great match for the D800.

Is this in the wild?

Omgness, how much did you crop with an 85mm? How near were you? The image look so sharp!!

looks like the bird park or something cause of the artificial bg and the reflection?
i may be wrong..

yups, i think this is the owl enclosure in bird park. impressive because that area is pitch-black.

what i'm wondering is how much was cropped, yet still such a sharp and detailed pic.

BTW, do you observe any AF issues (e.g. not able to focus well with the left most AF points)?

I've noticed that the AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED consistently focuses a foot or two behind the subject at 200mm with the subject at a distance. Did not do any extensive testing, but aperture was between f2.8-f4. Had to aim on the ground in front of the subject for AF to focus correctly.

My 50mm, 105mm prime lenses and 16-35 lenses do not exhibit this issue or any other AF issues.

Does anyone know of a good list of lenses with issues when used with the D800? Maybe we should start a thread.

Why don't you just AF fine tune? My 85, 24 and 70-300mm were all front or back focusing to some degree but i tuned them, and they're now pretty decent. Should give it a shot. I didn't have to tune much, maybe +/- 8 max.

+/- 8 feels like quite a bit of diff isn't it?

I don't consider +/- 8 to be significant, cause +/- 20 is the max and 8 doesn't seem too severe. Well my lenses now are:
+3 with the 70-300mmVR
+5 with the 85
-8 with the 24mm

haven't tuned the 105 yet

Anyway, went to shoot today with the 24 and 85mm, here are some 24mm shots:

how did you do the tuning?

How does the 35mm f2 lens perform on the D800/E?

did the tuning with objects around my room around 6-8ft away, then "real world" as i took pictures. It's not 100%, but the values are very close to what they should be, especially since i tested with static objects at home. Nothing close to +/- 20 anyway.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a go when I have the time.

I was surprised that focus was off by a couple of feet and it felt like it appeared at the long end of the zoom only. At the wide angle end, the focus seems accurate.

haaaaa got i fella selling D800 at $1800 @ BNS.... who wanna go grab it.....:rolleyes:
