D7100 User thread

Hi D7100 user, I just get mine few weeks ago, I tested and there are some dirt spot I think should be on the sensor, I send back for replacement and unfortunately body only sold out and only available 4 weeks later, so they decided to send back Nikon for sensor cleaning.

I just collect back my camera, then I found out that the dirt spot are still visible, but much more better than previous, then the shop guy tested on another D7100 still have the problem, just asking if anyone of you face the same problem? Do you all have anyway to solve this?

Yeah I also have the same problem. Maybe its a new 'feature' in Nikon camera's to make sure you know how to PP. For me I need to stop down to F22 to see spot(only one spot). At normal shooting apertures it is clean. I will probably only send it in after I get about 5000 clicks in. Perhaps this is a repeat of the D600 case where after some amount of use it will stop coming. Price to pay for early adoption I guess.

for me i dont have much of a oil/dirt problem on my sensor.mostly dut issues. but i think its only a small single speck ,which was easily removed using a dust blower...personally i think these issues arent that serious if it only appears t higher f values like f16/22 because most of us dont shoot that high anyway and if we do it can be handled in post processing which most of us will be doing anyway. Unless it becomes super serious like that of the d600 where it starts affecting even at wider apertures i think we all can live with it.

I tried the in-built dust removal system. Seems to work for really small particles which are barely seen even at F22. The spot I saw still was not removed. As you said, I think it wont become as big of an issue as long as it doesnt go to D600ish levels and in normal shooting. Having logged in about 1000 clicks now, I havent seen more spots pop up so I guess its an isolated incident. Overall I am blown away by the performance. Big step up from my D5000. The 51 pt AF especially is a nice addition and the OLED VF is actually an improvement yielding much greater visibility in sunny situations. I find the buffer in RAW quite disappointing on 14 bit lossless compressed. I only got about 10-13 shots off.

Notice my D7100 images tend to be underexposed by at least -0.5 for most of my shots.
Most of the time compensating my shots to +0.5 in camera setting and then during PP as well in increasing the exposure ++

D7100 Aperture Priority - f/8 1/500 iso 100

2)

Different cam D700 AP as well f/8 1/800 iso 200

Both taken raw convert to jpeg without any PP and using 17-35 f/2.8 lens

Any brothers or sisters out there having the same problem ?

What f did u take these at? I only see the lone spot on mine at f16 n above. Also about the underexposure, I notice it also but it's not random like d7000 overexposure so can just set n forget. Maybe newer gen camera has a different algorithm. Different metering system also. If u notice the 7100 shot looks more evenly exposed( I.e can do more pp to pull shadow, highlights etc) at least to me.

It's not a matter of f-stop.
Just that newly bought cam came with dirts on the sensor which I believe is not acceptable.
Also reflects on nikon QA/QC is not up to it or is it a design flaw somewhere along the line.

Buying a new camera model early is always a bad idea, you pay more and get less if you're unlucky.

The problem is they still have not learn from their D600 or they couldn't care less.
All in all I have to admit the D7100 is quite a great product so far.

on my first 1k shots on this camera... i havent use beyond F5.6 YET... sorry maybe wrong word used...
It all depends on your style of shooting and subject ..
