I just want something to come out forcing D700 price to drop. That way i can finally get one. Selling off my DX equipment seems logical but at the same time i love my S5pro. Damn...

i read somewhere that a Nikon high up person said they are still going to focus and commit to the DX market... take note...

So does that mean high probablity of D90s now that this model is almost 2 yrs old liao:dunno:

maybe... not sure but guessing what the high up person said it seems there will be more DX camera bodies coming out in the future... and maybe perform as good as FX?

Meaning no D700 replacement? Then no choice... got to go with 5dmkII... :(

Hmmm, I'm confused now...:dunno: Should I take the plunge for the D700 then?

Situation: D700 is nearly 2 years old, a new one is about to come out.
Recommendation: Wait for the new model to replace the D700, so you wun waste money upgrading again when the new one is out.

Situation: Replacement for D700 is out (lets say D700x), just launched price is very high.
Recommendation: Wait a bit more for the price to drop, usually about 2-3 months. 4-5 months can see the price drop more.

Situation: If wait a bit more, D700x prices will drop even more, making it even more affordable (say 7-9 months from launch)
Recommendation: Wait a bit more for the price to drop so that you can save even more.

Situation: 1 over year has passed since you waited for the prices to fall. Rumours as it that a D800 will come out and replace the D700x.
Recommendation: Wait a bit more till the D800 is launched, so that you will get the updated version.

And the cycle of waiting repeats.

How long are you going to wait? up to you.

Or do you rather just buy now, and enjoy the camera and take the shots that matter?

If its me, i choose the latter.

Hi Luntut, it's like a vicious cycle and dunno how many times we need to read n hear it repeated ... :bsmilie:

Was at my Hall's talent time event and saw a friend snapping away happily with his D80 and a 70-200mm 2.8... I was thinking, if only I had my D700, could toy around with that....

That's it! This friday! D700 + 14-24 + 50 1.4G

no matter how many times this is repeated, it will carry on repeating.

strangely, you will probably not find such a question repeating itself every few days in other US photographic forums. i wonder why...

you are still studying, and you can afford to buy a D700 with 14-24 and 50 1.4G.

I had to start working full time before i could afford my first DSLR, a D80.

A true ASK, indeed.

i am still using a D80

Yup.. get the best. I always feel bad when i see better cameras around me. After all, we are judged by our camera and lens. Nobody would ever see our pics if we dont post them. =)

I never believe in "Better gear makes a better photog" Its just utter thrash for Gear Junkies. You are not bound by your gear, but how vast and expansive your mind is.

But you have to admit that better gears including some good filters does make a small percentage of diff in the resultant picture quality, well maybe not so much the composition and some other. In the golf world we term this type of club(gear) as 'more forgiving' hence possibly better shots resulted.

I was taught that it's 20% gear + 20 % software + 60 % Right brain so still there is an element that better(more exp) gear & powerful software will in someway give you slightly better results and you don't have to do so much more work in your head:lovegrin:

Just my opinion:devil:
