The best way I figured is to borrow from your friends. Failing which you may rent them.

I usually just go the the store with the intention to buy. I prefer to not tamper with stocks that are meant for sale, for obvious reasons. But of course, it is all depend on the understanding between you and the salesperson.

Hey buddy, as per what they had shared with u, i do agrees that different lens has its own strength. 35mm is suitable for wide - just as long u keep ur picture in perspective. i wud use for landscape. 50mm standard prime lens for me is great for potraits. there are reviews for battles of the fast 50mm's between 1.8D,1.8G & Sigma 1.4 or 1.8 .things to note, Sigma were originally meant for canon mount. 50mm F1.8G were the best of choice due to its built,price & its bokehlicious! ) i read somewhere that 50mm used to be a kit lens.. Lastly i wud suggest u to rent 35mm,50mm&85mm & u shoot & compare. CameraRental.

The shorter the focal length, the less the bokeh. So there is always a trade off between bokeh and FOV. The best creamy backgrounds are those in birdie shots taken by the ultra (expensive) teles. Search on CS Nature forum and see for yourself.

If you are used to the 600D + 50mm 1.4, then the FOV of a D7000 + 50mm is almost exactly the same. My suggestion: go for both the 35mm AND 50mm f1.8G.

The only option is the Sigma 150-500mm OS. But don't expect miracles. You get what you pay for. Stationery birds out in the open, still can. Bird in flight? Close to zero.

Alternatively, the Nikon V1 + FT1 + 300mm f4. No VR. "Tee kum" also.

And even if you buy the expensive big boys, you need to invest in gimbal head and solid tripod. Another $1-2k easy. Plus must learn how to work with more than 10kg of gears. Not for the faint hearted.

Apart from the gears, I actually saw an ang moh hired a "caddy" to carry his gigantic tripod and massive lens at Sungei Buloh. It's a 3 man team. One "caddy", one with binoculars and one just point here and there and walk around..
