So d90 has no replacement?

D100 is already used. It's one of the first Nikon DSLRs. But D800 and D4 is still vacant. D3100 and D5100 is more of an upgrade like SB900 to SB910

And after D4000 they might come up with D10000 XD half a millennium down the road, if Nikon is still kickin', they might be in D50000 already

Aiya. It's just a name leh.

D7000 is not a direct replacement for the D90, supposed to be of a new range.

Just a minor rehash....

Looking back to the DXX times

D40 -> no more (or D3000)
D60 -> D3000 & D5000 with minor differences between the 2.
D90 remains

When the next replacement occurs

D3000 -> D3100
D5000 -> D5100 with a little bit of features found in D90 (bracketing for e.g.)
If you look at D7000, it's pretty much the same body as a D90 with quite a bit of features found in D300(s). If you must say D7000 is not a replacement for D90, it can either be a replacement for D300s, which is unlikely, or Nikon just up the ante for D90 range's capabilities. Much like how I feel abt D40 to D3000 and D5000 to D5100.

There was once a D50 as well.

True, when Nikon announced the D7000 they claimed its a range between the D90 and D300s. Sometimes I feel that the Canon naming system is less complicated with their mark 1,2,3.

Also Nikon flashes are the only ones not following the guide number while naming :bsmilie:

And a d70, with cf slot....

Haha. I know that. I'm still using it! My first dSLR too.

Hhmm....really tempting to not wait....

Does the Nikon 16-35mm VR make a good portrait len for the D7000? Thanks

Depends really. If u need a larger buffer with better weather dealing or better video with more megapixels

U meant these reasons r for d300?

Hmm the D7000 has more megapixels and weather sealing.. but the D300 also has weather sealing. And the buffer on the D7000 is quite sad.. chokes up after something like 10 NEFs shot in a high-speed burst, so I'm not sure which is which.

D300s has a larger fps, larger buffer, full magnesium alloy body and also better weather sealing. But the d7000 has better
Video function and more megapixels

yes, that's y. torn between these 2 even the pricing are not far off each other. only thing i saw is the difference in video mode 1080 vs 720 for d7000 n d300s. after that d300 has the upper hand of the cross points n AF i think. for the megapix, i'm not sure 16.2 vs 12.2 has a lot of diff for the output pic n also ISO capabilities. since d7000 is a PITA to get, maybe should look into the d300s......

If you like to burst shoot and is likely to abuse your camera then get the d300s. If you like to video (not really important except for school projects) or shoot birds etc where you need to crop your photos, then get the d7000

If you are a nef burst shooter then the d7000 will not suit you
